but I do honestly believe that Kiffin deserves a chance to prove what he can do....his personality is awesome and he claims the work ethic will be 2nd to none!! SO, my Fulmerite ass says give Lane the reigns and pull for him to succeed!! His approach on recruiting has scared me but he has enough to talent to prove alot next year and get a great 2010 recruiting class!!

Go VOLS

Sorry if this sounds rude, buts its pathetic that any supposed UT fan has to make the choice to root for Kiffin.

just sounds to me we are wanting him to fail rather than succeed...if so, why did we get rid of CPF....lets support what we have and hope for the best!!

We? You must mean the royal we. I only see and hear Kiffin hate from a small number of folks.

I am in the same boat as you. I was a huge Fulmer supporter. Now that he is gone, I want only the best for the program. I want to see W's regardless of the coach

GO VOLS!

That is where this fanbase has been for the last 4-5 years or so. One group of fans cheering for Fulmer (and not necessarily the Vols) and another group hoping that the Vols lose so that Fulmer can go.

Why is it surprising now that we have a new faction rallying behind Kiffin and another hoping he falls on his face so that Fulmer can be vindicated? Not saying that the thread starter is an anti-Kiffinite, but just saying... :jpshakehead:

There are no vols fans on here that want kiffin to fall on his face so they can say I told you so. If there are any people who want to say that then they aren't really vols fans. (I just started using ignore for these people and it's great)

The same people that bashed fulmer will bash kiffin if he doesn't succeed. The difference now is that if Kiffin fails he will have former-Fulmer supporters calling for his firing as well. I don't think he will fail though.

I think it became that way for the pro-Fulmer people, but I didn't hear too many rooting for the Vols to lose. Maybe a few here or there, but the vast majority of those who wanted Fulmer gone still hoped we won.

I thought this guy got banned a while back, when he previously set the record for most consecutive dumba** threads. Still keepin' on I see... If you stand still he'll get confused and walk away.

I don't understand the folks that are pulling for CLK to fail. Do you guys honestly think that if it happens Fulmer will be re-hired???

With Monte being on board, the dividing line in the fan base seems to be closing the gap. Of course we look like one big happy family compared to the debacle going on down in Auburn. If you look at the Chizik hire at AU, and then look at how Hammy handled this hiring here, there is no comparison. It's kinda like the old saying..."if you feel bad about yourself, just go to the state fair and look around."

I just don't see how any "fan" can want CLK or the staff to fail...no matter how much they loved PF.

All you Fulmer homers are pathetic! I am glad you finally decided to support the Vols and CLK, but should it have even been a choice? CLK is in the driver's seat and now the best thing the fanbase do is get behind him and enjoy the ride.

I liked Phil, and wished he could have fixed the problem. But I did not see that happening. Those that feel Phil got the shaft and deserved more time are those that are bashing Lane's record. You can question the hiring all you want now, but if he is successful and you can't get over it, you are a Fulmer fan first and a Vol fan second. I think we made a good hire when you look at the whole deal. (staff):good!:

How can anyone claim to be a Fulmer Supporter amazes me. He stole the job mid season from Majors, his record without Cutcliffe is 66-33, his record with Cutcliffe 82-19. Alot of people say he was one of our own? I guess that explains him working at Wichita St and Vandy before coming to TN as a OL, then OC then HC. Was Fulmer a good recruiter? he was decent, Was he a good coach? no, he relied upon Cutty to run the offense and Chavis to run the defense and Fulmer made the 4th down calls, what a mastermind and coaching guru <sarcasm>. When Fulmer was in charge we fielded teams with no disclipine on or off the field but people were brainwashed by either saying it was not his fault or lets give him a chance to fix things. When was the last time someone said: Lets give Nick Saban, Urban Meyer or Pete Carroll another year to "fix" things?

Is CLK the answer? that has yet to be determined but I do like the enthusiasm he brings, the coaching staff he will assemble and he will not be playing upper classmen but playing those who want the job the most. I do not hold his Raider coaching record against him because I am wise enough to understand that organization can't be fixed until Al death on a cracker Davis no longer controls the everyday running of the team. I do know his coaching philosphy is much like Saban, Meyer and Carroll and that is much better for us then the past regime.

First off Majors pissed the job away when he come back and started losing games period. Ain't that the goal win games?(By the way he did not beat Bama very often, and Spurrier had not built the FL dynasty yet either) Yea Fulmer stole the job, Majors got sick, Phil stepped in and won, Majors comes back and loses. I agree that Cut and Chavis are excellent coaches and was the driving force behind the success that we had. Slamming Phil for have great Coords. on his staff is, well pretty stupid considering Lane is gonna bring in a great staff to. Are we gonna give Lane all the credit after a 13-7 win, or will we spread the applause to Monte as well.
Lane was a great hire and will bring in the best staff we could get.
There is nothing wrong with given Fulmer his due, but wanting to go in another direction. Some of us can do that.

What does liking Fulmer have to with liking Kiffin or not? Call me pathetic if you wish...I liked Fulmer, I also knew something needed to change.

Does liking the man make me pathetic? I have met the man before...does that make me pathetic? If so, I guess I am.

I have supported Kiffin from day one....I would have supported ANY coach hired...I am a TENNESSEE FAN! I want to see the program win...REGARDLESS OF COACH!

This has nothing to with what I think of CPF.

GO VOLS!

Exactly,
This is not an either or question. Some think if you liked Phil you did not think it was time for him to go. We needed a change, and it was made. What I don't get is when Majors is brought up no one slams him for his career here. It is always Phil stole his job. Majors opened the door and invited Phil in to take it.

This might sound rude and/or pathetic to you....but the same could have been said by those who did support Coach Phillip Fulmer(who supported UT in everthing he ever did). Ever take that into consideration?

Majors went up against Bear Bryant and Gene Stallings at bama, Vince Dooley at UGA and Spurrier was not at Florida during Majors era it was Galen Hall. Just because Fulmer is a good person does not give him the right to be called a great coach. I sure do not recall schools knocking down his door during his tenure here or since he was fired to become their new HC.

As far as giving Fulmer his due goes: he won with Cutcliffe on his staff and lost alot when he was not. Fulmer was smart in getting Chavis and Cutcliffe and not so smart when trying to replace Cutcliffe. Is Fulmer a good ambassador for the university? absolutely

Winning 150 games, 1 NC, 2 SEC's, not to mention the SEC east 5 times since 97', doesn't justify being treated like a dog. His success at this university took a major turn in the last 4 years (mostly). He was maybe not a great coach, but what he gets on here sometimes is ridiculous. He made a bad choice in giving Sanders the OC job, and Clawson as well. It should not count against him however that he had Cut and Chavis, that's all Im saying.
And at this point, the SEC east is better than the SEC as a whole when Majors was here.
