We're hiring in-laws, brothers, fathers... what next, wives on the practice field baking cookies?

Got a question... lets say one of these relatives doesn't work out or the position they are in charge of is underperforming... will Kiffin fire that guy any quicker than Fulmer would have if he would have had an underperforming coach?

He tried to fire Buddy Ryan's son at the age of 32. I think he'll pull the trigger when needed.

Maybe openness and acceptance of this type of behavior is an unsuspected selling point of the Tennessee job (for people who are in to that sort of thing).

If it's Kiffin's wife I'll take one of the cookies

Hopefully he lets everyone know going into this thing that his main goal is winning games, and if one position isn't getting it done then come end of the year evaluations they could be searching for a new job. They'll all have to realize that this is a business, and UT will not settle for under performing

Apparently someone got their wittle feelings hurt when his candidate didn't get picked.

I'm fine with it as long as it means we will be successful, if not, get rid of who we need to.

I have more confidence in Monte Kiffin coaching defense than I do in Lane Kiffin coaching the O. I hope they both work out.

what do some of you people do when you cannot think of anything to bitch about?

Are the Kiffin's related to Buddy Ryan? Much easy to fire someobody that isn't related to you or an in-law.

I was just citing a time he was trying to fire someone.

I don't see the big deal with having one of the best Defensive minds in the game, top 25 recruiter from the South.

He isn't even in the office and TVA is already being TVA.

I think he is even pulling double duty with his alter ego, drloomis

Who's bitching?

All kidding aside, I think that the 'family' atmosphere at sold by Fulmer has been one of his biggest recruiting tools and something that I am very sorry to see come to an end.

I think Phil's downfall has a lot to do with his keeping the same staff over the years rather than incorporating new blood on a regular basis.

I am reassured by the fact that Kiffin is bringing in people whom he is close to and can trust. I think that this will be an endearing factor to the Tennessee fanbase and will make the transition more palatable to many.

We have transitioned from one 'Tennessee family' to another. Its a good thing.

I've been reading your posts for the last 2 years ...and you really are pathetic (it doesn't even matter what name you use)

If anyone is upset about the possibility of Monte Kiffin coming to Tennessee, then you truly need to have your head examined. Dang guys what do you want? As for David Reaves, he is a TREMENDOUS recruiter and Spurrier thinks enough of him to have him as his QB's coach, so I would think this would also be a good hire.

I think that the Reaves hire (and possibly Chris - if that is seriously being considered) are bigger issues than Monte, obviously. UT probably wouldn't have hired Lane if Monte wasn't part of the deal...

And honestly how much longer is Monte coaching, probably a dream come true, the chance to work together.

This is why I think Coach O may still come (unless he is offered a high-profile DC spot this off-season). Monte is out the door in about 3 years, coach O would be the DC in-waiting (and learning behind Monte).

So you expect coaches to not hire people they know even if they may be the best defensive coordinator in the NFL? Makes sense
