It wasn't so bare the year before, not that much has changed. Crompton came in under another OC (besides Claw) and performed pretty well for a backup without much playing time. The O-line wasn't better, they just did a better job of compensating for it compared to this year.

I don't think the cupboard is as bare as this past season showed us. Teach the O-line proper technique, coach up the QB position and we are in decent shape.

i think we're all banking on better coaching to get more out of what we have.

that's not in dispute.

the problem is that it's still an 'if'.......if you look at the performance of the players we have coming back the past couple of years, minus a few stand outs, it's hard for me to get to the point where i can say our players are as good, much less better than, GA, FL or Bama's players coming back.

that's really not a stretch folks, and it's also not being too negative. it is what it is until proven otherwise.

I have no doubt the team will be improved next year, but they will not be able to compete with GA, Fla. just yet. We have talent but after watching the SEC Championship and Oklahoma play as well last weekend it's clear we don't have the athletes that they have.

We'll get there, it's just not going to be next year. I predict 7 or 8 wins in '09....MAYBE....9 ..

do agree though that coaching definitely affected the offense this past year......there's no excuse for a returning 5 on the O line to be as bad as they were this past season.

but the offense coming back next year will be on the 3rd OC in 3 years......more change.......more to learn, even more to un learn.......

i just think it's asking a lot to put the floor on next season at 9 wins or to realistically expect to seriously be in the hunt for the SEC next year.

to me, a bowl game next year would be a very good 1st step. bring in a top 10 class that's a great 1st step. beat the teams you're supposed to beat.......and take your chances with the rest.

should be fun.
