I think Adams needs a hug...

Listen, I understand how he shouldn't be a UT homer and objective journalism and blah blah blah, but he is more than welcome to be optimistic about Tennessee every once in awhile.

His job is done, he chased phil away. He can talk about the future being bright, the defense is stout, the offense can only go up, the potential staff is stellar. He's rubbing off on POSIvol

If this is a thinly veiled attempt to lower expectations I seriously doubt it will affect many folks. Mr. Adams thrives on antagonizing the fan base. I for one refuse to believe the talent on this football team is as mediocre as he seems to.

And what was Bama's record last year? They did not return any more talent than we did. Saban took Shula's players and won big with them, adding in some Fr. talent here and there. It can be Done !

I did get 4, I beat John Adams bumper stickers by beating him in his pick'm game. The dude is gloom & doom though. I just thought he hated PF.

"But Kiffin will need more than one recruiting class to compete with Florida or even Georgia in the SEC East."

He needs to seriously re-assess where the SEC is going to be next year. Georgia will likely be Knowshon and Stafford-less, and Tebow is thinking about going pro (good luck buddy), so competing with Georgia and Florida isn't a possibility? It's not like either of them blew us out this year, with the worst team in Tennessee history.

We're one year removed from beating Georgia, Florida would be a normal team without Tebow, and we're that much closer if one of these quarterbacks/a new QB gets someone who can teach them not to throw it at the other team/guy in the third row/wr's feet.

If you can convert erik ainge into a competent quarterback after '05, you can convert one out of four/five quarterbacks into a decent game manager depending on who coaches him.

Or am I drinking too much Kool-aid?

John Adams always has something negative to say and its ridiculous....I remember reading some of his columns when I was smaller and thought he was a jerk then and now that I understand more about what he's writing about I can't stand him, I never read his columns

I'm not specifically calling you out, but this is the type of comment that puzzles me.

On the one hand we've got folks that are saying Jimmy Hyams is too positive and won't ever say anything negative about the current coaching staff.

On the other hand we've got comments like this that degrade John Adams for being "negative" (some call it "realistic").

I'm not saying that I fall on either side of this fence, but it's really puzzling that there's such a large "generally negative" populous of fans.

I stopped reading Adams' drivel long ago. This simply reminded me why.

Except, unless he brings in a Julio Jones type freshman receiver and a couple of JUCO defensive linemen, I'm afraid that Adams, unfortunately, is correct this time.
