Better known to most of you as Vols2345. He called me out of the blue wanting to know how the Vols have looked so far. He said he's only able to get the box score in the paper. Evidently the internet doesn't work in Texas... that or Chuck doesn't know what a public library is. My guess is the later. Anyway, he said the Navy is a lot of work thus far, but he thinks it was the right decision for him. I told him how great the offense has looked, and he was kinda surprised that Milo still tries to talk up the PAC-10 after the beatdown we put on the Golden Bears.

Soooo, just to let you guys know, Chuck isn't in jail as speculated. Yet.

Just enlisted? Mineman, maybe?

He just enlisted. He's going to be some sort of computer something. I think he's at A school right now? It is in Houston whatever it is.

I'm not aware of a computer "A" school in Houston...and I worked in the apprentice technical training (ATT) schoolhouse.

My guess is he's going through computer based training (no instructors, just a facilitator there to make sure he and the rest of them are working) as a mineman. If that's the case, he had about a 33% chance of going through my barracks in Great Lakes. If that's the case, depending on when he went through there, I may have bumped into him.

ATT gets minemen, sonar techs, electronic techs (which is what I am), fire controllmen, electrician mates, interior communications electricians, gunners mates, torpedo mates, and gas turbine techs. We also get a fair number of aviation folks, but I'm not as familiar with the jobs that go through my old schoolhouse. Basically, if it deals with electricity and not nuclear or on subs, you'll go through my old schoolhouse.

ITs, the ones who "use" our computers and radios (and who's job I'm currently fulfilling here in Africa) now attend school in Virginia Beach.

I know minemen have a follow on school in Ingleside, Texas. It was originally a headache for us to get them there in a timely manner.

Did a little research. He's either going into my rate or into fire control (FC). That means Great Lakes, looks like he was just in Houston visiting a friend (and presumably on leave...seeing as that's far beyond our special liberty limits :whistling: ).

While this means I haven't met him, it does mean he's going through one of our barracks and definitely through our schoolhouse.

If you can get him in touch with me (I'll pm my email to you), I could answer any questions he might have...having seen his posts, I'm not convinced he knows everything he needs to at this point.

He's most likely locked into the "ET" or "FC" field already and doesn't "have a choice." I'm willing to bet I could help him get to FC if he isn't already, seeing as I handled that stuff in the schoolhouse on a daily basis for 2 years.

This makes more sense knowing he's in Great Lakes. His hours are LONG...I can guarantee that. He likely doesn't have much access to the internet while he's up there, though since he'll be there so long I bet he will either get Comcast internet or start going to the base library.

He's not getting much liberty right now, either, based on knowing his school and how "new" he is on the base. That can also affect him not being on the net/board.

If you can, make sure you have him shoot me an email or at the very least a PM here. Have him borrow a "shipmate's" connection for a few minutes somewhere in the barracks if he needs to.
