I know it's not cool to say anything that isn't super positive right now but anyway...

I have been baffled about the supposed "read" since Butch's first game here.

I don't really understand the delayed handoff when the qb never keeps it. It's basically a slow developing dive or stretch play with no lead blocker.

I don't have a problem with the concept at all. The read can be deadly. Auburn almost won the NC running the read and with a qb THAT COULDN'T EVEN THROW.

Even when Dobbs does pull it back, it seems predetermined, not an actual read.

Admittedly, I was seeing things from a TV point of view, but it looked like the right end (Dobbs left) was crashing down hard. I think 5-7 good reads could have netted a 100 yard rushing day for Dobbs.

I don't think our qb needs 15 carries a game...5-7 reads (however many the D presents us with) would be fine. It also would freeze the lbs and free things up for Hurd.

Not sure if Dobbs isn't good at the read or If the coaches have pulled the reins in. I actually think these plays are safer than designed runs. Dobbs is fast enough to turn the corner then step out if bounds or slide.

This offense could be deadly. There are so may options. Hand to Hurd/pull and keep/pull and keep with a pass option/pull and keep with a pitch option.

I'm thrilled that be 5-0, but I don't think we're close to maximizing this O's potential. The occasional jet sweep and WR screen would be fine too. Our WRs do a great job blocking.

Again, I'm thrilled to be undefeated but if we "free Dobbs" and mix up the calls a little better we could easily get to Atlanta.

I'd just like to point out, we're facing a DC next week that is baffled by misdirection and running QBs.

I don't know how many, but I do recall thinking there were a few plays that he would have had the edge of he would have kept.

You're not the only one. We run a delay hand off with a line that can't run block. It's why we have 7-10 runs for a loss EVERY game. The DTs are a yard deep before the RB even starts moving.

We are finding a way to win, but it is in spite of this system. I have never seen a run offense with so many negative plays.

Let me break this down for you, they score more points than the other team.

Let me know if you need me to drill this down even more.

Go Vols!

It's not for feable minds like ours to understand. Only the guru, Lyle Butch Jones can comprehend such mastery! Just score more points than the other team and don't ask questions.

Keep looking for that dark lining in every silver cloud.

I may be wrong but I do not recall very many experts questioning our scheme but they do point out the inconsistency in Oline play and Dobb's passing. The Offensive Unit often fails to execute when the play is there to be made.

As I said, happy to be 5-0. Just don't think we should need OT against App. I also think we could have done to UGA what Ole Miss did.

If we can make it to Atlanta by taking the first half off, that's fine by me.

It's obvious that Debord hand cuffs Dobbs to limit the hits several times he should have pulled it an ran clear back up k town...

I think this topic is about the offense side of the ball. From what I have seen, the offense has little control over the number of points the other team scores, I think that's controlled by our defense. Now if you need me to drill this down even more....

To bridle Dobbs in our most important game is silly. If so they should be fired. He should be going all out on every play in the UGA game and have an unleashed attitude from Debord. Curious why we didn't go under center some? Why Dobbs didn't pull it more?

Righto! It's what's on the score board when the clock hits quadruple zeros . We have some things to fix just like every CFB team. Great road win !

I've seen the same and the opposite. Many times he's kept it where Hurd would have been untouched. Just the nature of the read option

Dobbs typically reads the DE to determine whether to keep it or hand off. The other teams would be stupid to crash their DE's and allow Dobbs a free run to the edge. The GA DE's were staying home yesterday which is why Dobbs didn't keep it on those read run plays.

I don't think he does read it. You may be right, but if he's reading it then the DEs for every team have been staying at home for 2 seasons.

He's had a lot of runs over his career but very few have been reads. I'd say 90℅ have been called runs or scrambles.

There is no doubt in my mind that they manage how many hits that he takes by not letting him run sometimes. I'm sure that they are trying to keep him healthy through the buzzsaw part of our schedule.

Exactly, KIRBY took a different angle then our previous opponents, he decided to keep the DE at home and make him hand it off or pass. Dobbs had been setting himself up all season, by handing off and not keeping when he should have kept the ball. This offense is not just a play by play set up but game to game! This teams balls out in the 1st QTR When, DOBBS trusts his recievers to make early game catches. Almost all of his passes were on the money this game! GO VOLS!!!!!

The pass coverage may be a factor. Man to man it's more productive for Dobbs to keep it, on zone the DBs will be peaking and react up to make the stop.

Also it seems he gives early in the game to set him up to keep it late in the game. Plenty of mistakes to correct. We are coming for you A&M.

Go Vols!

I don't think Dobbs makes reads; I think our system is all predetermined. If he did make reads, he'd have a few more 70 yard runs.
