I still blame the coaches

Plenty of blame to go around on this one.....nobody involved is immune from culpability. From coaching malpractice, to players attitude and expectations. But keep in mind, though it's happened slowly, this team and staff have leaked talent in a way we've rarely seen before ever since they've been here. To me that is indicative of a larger problem. I'm guessing we'll never really know, but it seems that there are some systemic issues internally that are just part of the way Butch runs things.

I don't blame the coaches for Hurd walking out on his team.

I blame them for having the most talented team in recent history not ready to play each and every game this year.

Funny how Butch wants to talk about players holding each other "accountable", yet he doesn't hold his coaches accountable. Otherwise, Debord would be already gone.

Add to that lousy Oline, and has been since Butch got here. Receivers that drop most throws and never stretch out for a catch. And Penalties: OMG compared to last year, who coaches them???:dance:

The honest truth is that our offense thrives with a smaller speedy back.

I remember last year when we still had Kamara and DeBord used Hurd instead on those outside runs. I think Hurd played about 70 percent of those downs. It's almost as if DeBord favored Hurd besides what was best for the team.

When we were forced to use Kamara instead of Hurd we became way more productive and now the coaches "finally see that"?

I know it's not right sometimes, but coaches will "push out" players who might get playing time elsewhere or might work better at a better system. Basketball programs are notorious about that.

You can't fault Hurd for wanting to play with different formations when he sees an opportunity to run better.

Use your brain please.

The reason they were using Hurd 70%+ of the time is that he would cry if they didn't. It's all making sense now and it shouldn't be so hard to figure out what was going on.

This team will look totally different mentally come Saturday.

I'd really like to see the attrition rates when he was at Cincy and Central Michigan. This would be telling if the rates are above average there as well.

I blame the coaches 100% for Hurd. Why? Butch never should have recruited him if he was just going to waste his talents with a terrible scheme for him.

for Hurd hiring a personal trainer and nutritionist and gaining 20 lbs? According to an interview I heard yesterday Hurd has been told recently by NFL scouts he had lost a step and probably needed to move to TE.

This is not about attacking Butch. I have stated before he has been a great ambassador for TN Football, a good recruiter and I believe he has poured his heart and soul into rebuilding TN. Regardless of the foregoing comments we are nearing the end of year 4 and are not headed in the right direction. He is slowly but surely starting to get called out in the media (see links below). The LEADERSHIP needs to step up now! First and foremost it starts with Butch as he is the one who has to make the difficult decisions.

Currently, TN offense ranks 92 in the FBS!!! Unacceptable in year 4.

And TN's defense ranks 69th, again unacceptable in year 4.

Recent articles on Butch: In my opinion the gridiron is a must read shed some light on where TN is at.

Tennessee's biggest issue? It's obviously a lack of leadership

Brice: Butch Jones has rebuilt Tennessee, but can he help the Vols take the next step?
