Sweet. I've always wanted to do that. How did the oppourtunity come about?

Air Atlanta Helicopters has a discovery flight you can sign up for. $150 gets you 30 mins of training and 30 mins in the air with a flight instructor.

I flew a Robinson R-22 over downtown ATL over Turner Field and in between the buildings. Often times Shane (the CFI) didn't even have his hands on the contols. I did get us into a few "OH, :censored:" moments, but the flight instructor quickly corrected us.

It was the coolest I've ever done. I'm thinking about a career change now. :)

A kid i worked with went to chopper school, he has his recreational liscense now after about a year and a half of training, the commercial end is going to take a boatload of air-hours, though, but he's plugging away. Problem is, unless you're independantly wealthy, those air-hours don't come cheap.

Yeah, I'm already convinced that I will be up to my ears in debt if I decide to persue this...

I shot aerials once with a helo pilot who had flown in Nam. Guy would do anything, tree tops flying.. no problem, even flew me under a bridge. Guy was certifiably nuts, but I had a blast...

Very cool. My wife got to go up in the Duke hospital copter a few weeks ago for a story she was working on. Her overall reaction was how quickly it got up and moved. She's not a thrill seeker but loved the trip.

the world goes by really fast in a helicopter 10 feet off the treetops under a monocular Night Vision System, I promise.
