but I am worried about the future. GA, Ala, Fla, LSU, SC, Aub, all have an in state recruiting base we do not have in TN. I live in the Mmephis area and I doubt there are 6 players UT would be interested in. Ole Miss and UofMemphis get the majority and you can see where they are. Fulmer gets a lot of greif for his coaching but who would you replace him with that can nationally recruit? I am afraid our days of raiding neighbor states is coming to an end.

CCard, since you're from Big Shelby: I've always wondered what the UT fan base is like over there. I hear it's divided, roughly in this order: U of M, Ole Miss, UT, Ark. What's your take?

Look at Tennessee's team now. Most the players are not from Tennessee. They plucked Eric Berry out of the heart of Georgia.

Evidently, good players even come to average programs.

Just like fairweather fans, pessimistic fans, moronic fans, lousy fans, and fans that do nothing but moan and cry about every little thing as if they're going to change it and make you wonder why they waste their time to begin with. Oh, there are also those blinded homers as well as everything in between.....can't leave out those.

Pretty hard being a vol fan in Shelby county. I think Memphis fans would rather see us lose than them win. They lost to a terrible Ole Miss team this weekend and all you here is how we were crushed by Cal.

Berry's dad was a standout player on UT's football team. Fulmer had some inside helping recruiting him.

Tommy West coach of UofM and Ed Omygod of Ole Miss continue to argue who recruits Shelby county the best. Question is why would you want to?

Yeah I live in Southaven, MS (just south of Memphis) and I see alot of Ole Miss folks here and Lots of Memphis folks to and I wear my TN. football stuff and they rag me about it all the time. There is still a strong support for the vols down here but I think we got rid of some of the fare weather fans. Thank god.. GO VOLS!!:good!:

I have U of M season tickets and always hear a bunch of stuff about being a vol fan but I swear at last years game about 2/3 of the people who sit in my section had on orange that day instead of blue (including myself). That should tell you something.

Still we are getting big names out of texas, oklahoma, florida, oregon (ainge) Tennessee is a prestegious program and I dont think they will have problems recruting. Unless they continue to suck it up.

i too, have memphis season tickets, as my dad is a grad of memphis state. I love going to football games with dad, and choose going to memphis games many times over going to knoxville just because of him. But I was wearing orange last year as well, and get this guys, I even had my piggie of a wife from fayettville wearing an orange ut shirt! I trying to convert her, but it is a little more difficult than I thought it would be.

You think living in Shebly County and being a vol is tough, try moving into Arkansas and wearing orange!

I agree colliervillecard. I work in Collierville and live in west Tennessee and Memphis fans would rather see UT lose than them win. In fact, they still talk about that 96 game where they beat us.

The good news is that once you get out of Shelby Co. it all turns orange again.

If Fulmer has enough charisma to bring in recruits, imagine how good of a selling job a Jon Gruden could do in a teenagers living room.

Not that I'm even saying we should hire Gruden, but I'm sure there are people that are out there that can sell the university just as well as Fulmer and that can also use the talent to the fullest once it is here.

I just dont see the whole Gruden thing. He has done very little with Tampa since the Superbowl. But, he might be a good college coach, who knows.

Pete Carroll was never that great in the pro's either but he's done alright.

I dont think that Gruden is any Pete Carroll. Those are two different personalities. I have no idea how Gruden would do here, but if he does come I hope he does better than he has at Tampa year to year.

They may be different but I thought Petey would not succeed in the Ncaa's. Nick's proven to be a mediocre NFL coach but a top notch cfb guy.

Spurrier was a terrible NFL coach and a terrible quarterbacks coach at Georgia Tech.

He did OK in the USFL, Duke, Florida and is rebuilding USC, though. :good!:

Gruden might do ok if he actually had a decent QB in Tampa.

Did we just not have the 4th ranked recruiting class in 2007 (as ranked by Rivals) yet were worried about being able to secure recruits?

If Fulmer is let go, then yes, we will need to be concerned about securing recruits.
