In order to review for targeting, doesn’t it have to be called in real time?? I’m under the impression you cannot find a penalty on replay. Also, I recall the refs saying “the ruling on the field is that the runner was short of the goal line, the previous play is under review.” Insinuating that they were reviewing spot and not anything for targeting, yet when they came back out they said they were reviewing it for targeting”

Targeting can be reviewed and called even if not called on the field. It's an exception to the rule.

SEC will never be accountable for their shi77y work. They keep making excuses for the Hubert idiot. Zero accountability!!

They made up the BS excuse that they were reviewing if the ball crossed the goal line so they could retroactively call targeting!!!
I agree that they made an excuse to allow time to review for targeting. A booth review can be called to initiate a review even if not called on the field, but the refs took the chance to stop the game to allow the booth more time to consider a review. That is not the way the process is supposed to be run.

I'll tell you, looking at the replay right now, TN was robbed of this game by the refs. I'm not saying we're better than Bama, but without the refs' help, we were better this game. Jennings' wildcat we were screwed out of, the interference in the end zone that wasn't called against the gumps, and the bs call again Taylor. How do you call targeting against Bituli for lowering his head when the guy he was tackling was three feet lower than him? We were screwed. I don't care that they played their crappy second string QB, so did we. We should have beat Bama on their own field and would have without the cheating SEC refs. I think we beat them next year in Knoxville. I hope the guys watch this game and realize they can win out this year.

I saw a game earlier in the year where the refs let the game continue and the refs in the booth called down after the next play and said they were reviewing the previous play for targeting. The player was determined to have been guilty of targeting and was ejected. The rule allows them to review any play at any time for targeting.

Jesus now I get it. The vast majority of you complain about the refs bc you don’t know the rules. That’s not the refs fault. That’s yours

I stopped reading at the Jennings part. Understand what happened. The play clock was wrong. The ref noticed and stopped the play. Can you imagine how pissed you would be if we had gotten a delay of game there. Now we were in go mode so it wouldn’t have expired. But that’s not the refs job. If they notice the play clock is wrong then they should blow a whistle.

Can you imagine how pissed you would be if Bama player is laying on top of Maurer and then uses his body to stand up?

This place is incapable of looking at things honestly .

The first PI call was one

The second one was questionable

You're quite the referee apologist. Maybe the crooked SEC office can hire you to do PR work as a front to make sure their favorite team gets in the playoff games.

But the booth never called down in our game. They may have taken a look anyway, but they may not have without the refs on the field stopping the game.

While the refs in general were horrid, they got the targeting call on Bituli right. He led with his helmet right into the back of the head of Juedy

Well if you have ears it was explained to you by the announcers or a former head ref.

I call BS!

You could tell by head ref's face it was like what the hell are you stopping the play for and like that was no good reason after he was told.
Then of course, they had no choice but to re-set the play clock.

Even if that was the case, the head ref should of explained wtf they stopped play!

Don't be so gullible and believe everything the announcers and or "head ref" say! SMDH!

You may be right, although the booth calling down may have been the actual reason they stopped play. The refs did say it was to review whether he crossed the goal line, but who knows. In my opinion that was targeting, so they ultimately got the call right, but I think we can all agree that in general, the refs were terrible all night.
