I lost my job

Generally speaking most companies have a strict policy on NCNS. My company is fairly liberal with it compared to most. We terminate after the 3rd NCNS, or two in a row is considered job abandonment. Usually HR will reach out though and if there are extenuating circumstances they won't count it against them.

Yeah but is that not showing up at all or just being late? Where I work, NCNS means you don't show up or contact at all for the entire day. And yes we have the same 3 NCNS policy.

In many instances an employer that does not want you will wait for you to slip up so they'll have a reason to fire you without granting unemployment. Not saying that's the case here but it could be. I don't know what the OP's employee service record is but maybe this is the straw that broke the camel's back. Again, not saying that's the case. It's impossible to know the motives of the company without knowing their side of things.

Employers don't care about unemployment, they pay UI so it's not as if it's coming out of their pocket. But if sales are weakening or economic forecast is looking bad firing people can help reduce future costs. If you're at 100 employees and think you need to be at 90 by q1 just start getting tough on one strike policies and avoid layoffs. Layoffs make the papers, firings don't.

I can tell you with 100% certainty that employers do care. I own my own business and my UI rates are determined by the frequency of the amount of people I lay off.

-- OP can still get unemployment, but if its a company sucks hard they will fight it, but he will eventually get it if he keeps trying

I've had it denied on several employees. I've added it granted on one pos too. I don't mind someone getting unemployment if they deserve it but when they don't show up for work, steal, or she up stoned or various other reasons, they don't deserve it.

20 minutes and he probably had proof of having to go to the ER. Either his boss hates him or he was making too much money. There is clearly no loyalty in that place. It's going to cost them more to fire him than it will be to hire a replacement now.

RT you shouldn't have ANY trouble qualifying for unemployment given those facts.

I'm not convinced we have the whole story here.

If you have any mechanical experience and are decent at math, I would recommend finding a school that trains machinist or cnc programmers, best thing that ever happened to me, I was able to Goto school full time and work part time jobs and odd piece work here and there to get by with a kid and my wife worked as well, after just 10 months in school I got a co-op job with a small machine shop that served as hands on training and school credit, I went full time when I graduated and then a recruiter from the worlds largest medical manufacturing company contracted me and gave me an offer I couldn't refuse.

Being a machinist is the first job by man, next to agriculture, we will need manufacturing no matter the economy and it's a very broad profession.

Good luck, just some advice from one who has been in you shoes.

In most companies it's not showing up at all. I wouldn't ever consider showing up 20 minutes late as a NCNS. Sounds like they were looking for a reason.

I hate that for you or anybody! Stay positive and invest in a professional resume. Truck driving school is about 3 weeks and pays well after a year or two of experience. It may not be something you want to do long term, but its a quick fix.

OP,

If you can qualify for a secret clearance and have reliable transportation to commute to Oak Ridge, we may have something entry level available on one of our DoD contracts.

You do need to soul search a bit due to what just occurred with your other job. It has been my experience that if you are taking care of you business at work, 9 times out of 10 your boss has your back and one mishap will not get you let go.

It takes time to get the required clearances, so this would not be a "start tomorrow" type of opportunity. Let me know if you're interested and I can see if we have anything opening up.

I'm not convinced we have the whole story here.

I made 12.75 a hour working 7 days a week. I missed a total of one day do to me wanting to go to our first ultrasound. We have a total of 3 points we can occur. That was one &I no call no show is worth 2 and tardy is worth .5. I myself couldn't figure it out but that is why I got let go.

I got a job today so it's all good. The company I worked for is great i would work there again in a heartbeat but it is what it is.

Good for you. Hope it didn't sound like I was pointing fingers at you, just talking in general terms. I am an employer and I'm a little tainted by many in the workforce. Hope the best for you and your expanding family.
