He's a homer clown. Self proclaimed know it all. Don't feel like you have to say you like him. He's hard to listen to. Uconn does it all and they do it well. And welcome!

Homers are ok. They add some fun to listening/watching. I like Dearstone's melifluous delivery. And I like his hesitation when a call gets made and he figures it out before saying what happened. Too many broadcasters run their mouths like a button has been pushed. BTW: am thinking you guys are now even money for an FF. OSU can be beaten and Syracuse is gonna be a tough matchup for Dawn...they are a feisty bunch. Then an Orange War to get to Indy.

UCONN has had a few lackluster performances in the first half where defense isn't top notch. Then they let the hammer down in the 3rd quarter.

I do not like Dearstone..he is a rude and arrogant know it all. His only positive is he does support the Ladys. I don't like Gino either, but no one with a brain can say he can't coach or that you all are not a well rounded team: offense, defense, whatever. And your Stewie seems like a class act. Congratulations on having her.

If you want a real laugh sometime, read John Adams in the Knoxville News Sentinel during football season. Recently he's come out in support of the Lady Vols. I'm waiting for the other bama shoe to drop (in before someone says they don't wear shoes).

The fact the Deerstone is a Lady Vol supporter is about the only + I can see. Every time I've heard him on a radio show the guy comes off as a self-aggrandized type. I get the feeling listening to him that he sees himself as great by association. The UTLV are (well, were :-\) a top-level WCBB program and MD has been associated with them on that "meteoric rise". Therefore he sees himself as great. I get this feeling of arrogance / confidence from entitlement every time I here the guy.

Listened to @ 1/2 of my first LV game on radio a few years back. May have a been Duke. I can't remember. What I do remember is that the broadcast was intolerable. Stayed totally confused about the flow of the game the whole time. Finally just flipped over to listen to music.

No offense to the man himself. But I have no idea how fans tolerate the guy.

i rarely post...obviously. I lived in Knoxville from '87 to '93...then '03 to '11.

Dearstone is a car wreck on air personality. Horrific and yet...hard to ignore.

Morning drive time radio is SOOOO bad in Knoxville you almost feel forced to listen when you love Tennessee sports. But its so bad...Jeff is tolerable but has to cow to Doc and Heather obviously - she is a inaccurate fact waiting to happen - I used to time it daily, how long before she said something wrong about a player, the university, or the sport she was talking about in general.

Dearstone claimed at one point
1 - that in 40 years of shooting hoops he had never shot an airball - never - no one believed him, but he reused to admit that he had ever done it

2 - that Monica Abbot could not strike him out

true or not on the softball gig - not - the airball claim is the dumbest thing I have ever heard

- but he is an arrogant, Kentucky loving, men's hoops program bashing, pompous windbag. I have always supported the Lady Vols - I knew a bunch of them when I was in school there. Pat is a legend, etc, etc. But Dearstone is by far the least palatable media member in Knoxville - your thread title makes me question your sanity... no disrespect intended.

UConn is in a different league defensively than Tennessee is. Moriah Jefferson can make life miserable for just about any guard in the game; Andraya Carter cannot. That is the big difference.

They may be better off guarding Kelsey 1-on-1 and making her take tough shots than sending over an extra defender and let her get her teammates involved. Nared seems like the best candidate for this.

Not sure if OSU has improved but it was early in the season when they hosted UConn. What struck me is how much they simply slowed down after 1st period. All night long Stephanie White commented on their "lack of urgency". Mitchell was simply a non-factor. Am thinking that, with Craft out, Mitchell ain't gonna like extra ball handling/floor general responsibilities...and, like the team as a whole, she'll tire. Assuming LVs play hard smart D.

And yes he didn't make the statement with timidity, he said it with gusto....I will tell you one thing, his way of talking to people would last about a day in Atlanta... He'd need a dozen screeners,,,,,,I lost my respect for that crew when his screener asked me to use my real name because "DOC!!!!" had a problem with nicknames.... "That yer real name Bud?"... Ain't called em since.

I see where John can improve, but he is who I read to get personal interest stories with the LV's. Flesser is such a vanilla writer, afraid to shake someone up. John will.... Takes a moment, but he does come around.

He does seem to go a little extra in support of them. Didn't read him during football. Lady Vols fan forever, but football is little more than Basketball's off-season, for me.

Maybe this Butch guy can turn my head.
