Nothing is boring when your moving the football. We have to be better at sustaining drives. Scoring quick is always nice, but you got to be able to put drives together in college football. With our O-line we should be able to win our share of battles up front. That’s where things are won in the trenches. GBO
IMO there are a lot of capable Pros but also in my opinion if you dont get drafted and are a free agent that is still a Pro but with a caveat. Also some of the later rounds a few make it big but most are either a journeyman or a bust or a 2 or 3 year roster guy with ST's and then drafted over just the business.
No QB and thin D Line. It is the worst possible combination for them. Also, the offense being adjusted no longer heavily assists the run game as dramatically as their prior setup. They are mediocre anyway, and I think their swing games become losses and make their record slightly worse than where it belongs. It is a 7-5 team that becomes 5-7 with lost confidence and a lack of fallback plan on offense. This puts Heupel in jeopardy, and recruiting collapses. This continues Tennessee's natural cycle in modern football.
I’m confident that we have a D coordinator that can adapt and knows how to put his best 11 on the field. With our linebacker depth I won’t be surprised to see some guys play End and move some Edge guys inside at times. I actually think this is our most talented team we’ve had under Heupel. I think he’s evolved and shown that he can manage the game according to his roster. IMO he’s built that equity, but I do believe our run needs to improve by a lot from last season. We may have some decent numbers, but they are inflated against inferior competition. They know that, so I expect that to be improved. In terms of record, I don’t see 5-7 as the floor. 7-5 is not outside the realm of possibility and neither is 10-2. Luckily our toughest games are at home, outside of A&M. If we find a way to split Texas, Bama, aTm and LSU we’ll be fine. I don’t think we should pretend that those 4 don’t also have some major question marks as well.
Reports out of spring ball and summer workouts say the secondary looks.. I don’t want to say good yet but, serviceable. Redmond was looking pretty good and got a few picks in spring scrimmages and there was a report a couple weeks ago that said Farooq looked like he was about to take a step up. Now when it comes to DL depth, hopefully Coach Owings either gets the freshman strong enough to play, or, works everyone so hard they have enough stamina to make it through most of the game
