I know we swung for the fences but how did we miss on EVERYBODY?

I’m more excited to see the current roster and a top 20 class get coached up over any CBJ class that gets coached into the gutter

Any answers on how this happened? Smart a$$ answers at minimum please!

How hard is this for people to understand. He had 3 weeks to recruit kids who have been recruited by schools for three years.

He's coming off of a 4-8 all time low season.

What did people possibly expect. He held together a top 25 class, signed JJ Peterson (#1 OLB) and kept him away from Bama and LSU and signed some hopeful hidden gems. Pruitt shouldn't be judged at all until this time next year recruiting wise and post 2019 as far as on the field.

we landed Top 10 classes with the other regime...where did that get us...minor bowls...then a 0-8 SEC record...it's knowing what to do with what you got...believe this staff can take us to another level...we'll see..., and,

GO VOLS!

Because recruiting is all about relationships. Hard to build a relationship when you are still in bed with your ex. Fulmer should have never allowed that to happen.

Pruitt & co did a solid job in a short amount of time. The only guy I thought we should have got and lost was QW. Class Grade C, but it's still passing.

Now on to 2019.

The truth is the Tennessee brand isn't half as strong as fans want to believe. Most people put themselves in an echo chamber and Tennessee fans are no exception. If you step out of it though you will see we are viewed as a middle of the pack SEC team nationally. Fanbases, coaches, recruits, everybody thinks Tennessee isn't anything special.

Now something that does make Tennessee different is that we absolutely have the resources to be great, but it isn't going to be easy. Pruitt coming in and pulling a top 10 class with a few weeks of real recruiting time wasn't realistic. Georgia and Clemson rolling only makes it that much harder.

I disagree. I've lived most of my life outside BOC and I can't tell you how many non-Vol fans have seen my UT hat and started up a conversation with me about Tennessee football. In recent years, they seem to be just as perplexed as we are. Almost all of them say they expect us to be back near the top eventually. It's probably similar to the way most fans think about the current state of Nebraska's program.

I don't think anyone will be surprised when we're back in the Top 10. They will just wonder why it took so long.

Remind us all how well Botch Jones did with his highly rated recruiting classes. How many SEC East titles did we win? How many SEC Championships did we win? How many playoff games did we win? :thud:

I'm not worried about missing on some of these kids. J.Copeland was on twitter Monday night talking about how he was up all night crying from the stress of the decision. That kid who switched hats and went to Georgia was apparently a dumbass. It's hard to blame Eddie Smith for wanting to play for Coach Saban. The one that bothers me a little was the WR who we found out of nowhere who apparently used us to get an offer to FSU, but, you know, if that's his character then I'm cool with him playing with likeminded people at FSU.

Let's be happy about the kids who want to be here. Some of the others were not ideal Vols IMHO.

1). We just went 4-8 (0-8 in the SEC)
2). Remember that Currie/Schiano debacle a few months back?
3). Pruitt has never been a HC
4). Entirely new staff that only had about a month and a half to fully recruit

He was going up against the best schools/recruiters in the country. They had all the negative ammunition against him... Think they didn't use that? Kids want to play for a championship now, not rebuild a program. UT hasn't been good in most of these kids lives. Hopefully the staff goes out and proves they can coach this year. If so, watch out for the 2019 class.

Pruitt got a reality check. He's NEVER been in a situation where he has been the bullied and not the bully.

Bama, FSU, UGA and back to Bama.
UT just went 4-8 and Pruitt was tone deaf. Plus signed a rapist in an act of desperation to fill schollies.

His a Bammer and I'm still in shock that a UT legend hired a ****in Bammer to lead this program.

Well you could leave. It would make you happy and make some fans happy.

It’s just the first recruiting class for Pruitt and he had very little time to catch up on top guys we weren’t even contacting before. Lots to rebuild and Pruitt is still a bit of a mystery as a head coach. We’ll be fine going forward as he proves it on the field.

I’m just glad we didn’t end up with Schiano. Could have been bad recruiting and mediocre coaching.

A good point..(guys not contacted)

This staff may not have tried too hard for many of the previous staffs wants. Also the previous staff may have let up trying to get their guys when they saw the writing on the wall. Anyway when you clean house, you start with a clean house. Any way you look at the situation, we are starting over........

short memories. but what happened last season on the field, combined with what happened between thanksgiving weekend and the date Jeremy pruitt was hired, put a big stain on TN, that CJP and his staff could not overcome.

someone said the brand name took a hit....to some degreee that's true, but the reality is if the brand was hurt that bad, we wouldn't have gotten a lot of these kids to even show up, they all basically said as much....and hiring CJP immediately helped fix that, at least to the point that they'd come listen.

not enough that he could close the deal. especially in the time frame he had.

big gucci sosa posted a couple things from simonton and hubbs last night with their commentary on this particular subject, and they too basically said the same things, in addition to CJP having to learn the difference in recruiting as a postiion coach or coordinator to that of a head coach, and how that transitin is sometimes difficult. they also said familiarity with campus, facilities etc...hurt. while some of those top prospects had relationships wiht some of the coaches, several had never been to knoxville, and only got the one trip. and that's simply not enough to sway a kid, in most cases, to flip or committ if he has familiarity with other teams' campuses, facilities, current players etc...

both went on to say that this staff will most certainly bounce back and not have this happen again. most of these guys have been on championship staffs, recruited championship caliber players, they know what it's supposed to look like, and all of them are capable of lading big time players. said they probably learned a few things as well, and that will help them going forward.

so it's a "yeah, today sucked", but it doesn't mean TN whiffed again on a coach.....

(at least not yet anyway.... lol)

Short memories-----

Recruits memories are not that short. I liken our situation to rats leaving a sinking ship. Well the ship has sunk to the bottom and the rats swam away. This is not to call the recruits rats, but they like rats, don't like a sinking ship. I am sure they had rather start on a ship floating on top than sunk to the bottom. Remember, most of these kids are coming from winning teams. They don't like to think they are going to a loser... As we have just shown to be.

Anyone can look this up--- Pruitt wasn't the failure that so many want to believe, the early signing period has thrown people off..(and Georgia success)

Rivals we are ranked #20 with 9 four stars. (if you care about stars)

Butch Jones: 2017: ranked 15, 9 four stars

Butch Jones 2016 #15 1 five star (Kongbo) 10 four stars

Ranked number 22 his first year with 5 four stars.

247: we are ranked number 20 with 8 four stars.

Butch Jones (2017) Ranked number 17 with four four stars and 1 five star (Trey)
Butch Jones (2016) ranked #14 10 four stars
Butch Jones first year (2013) ranked #25, four four star..

So, not a failure and pretty good when you compare to Butch which everyone says was a great recruiter) We did have top 5 classes in 2014 and 2015, but Pruitt has just started (only been here two months) and already doing better or as well as Butch his first year and the last two years.

Yesterday after NSD was over I was highly disappointed because I thought we would have landed a few more higher rated guys than we did. However, after looking at the final rankings and finishing with a consensus top 25 class I don't feel as bad. Given the circumstances of 4-8 in 2017 and media circus with the coaching search I Guess it is what it is unfortunately. Hope 2019 class is full of studs and CJP makes us proud. GBO!

I feel next year will be on the same level as this one. To many challenges to overcome roster wise, new system etc. I think we win 6 or so and finish our class between 15 and 20. The third class is where we start to add the difference makers unless the wheels fall off again.

So Where is our '19 class currently ranked? If it's not top 10 can some please continue with their meltdowns?

It's entertaining.
