I Knew Gundy Was Playing For Another Raise

Gundy is an OSU alumnus/player. Been coaching there 18 years. 13 years as head coach. Sure are alot of idiots that thought he would give that up to come here.

The thing about it is, if you offer to double anyone's salary, they are going to sit up and pay attention. They may say no in the end, but not before thinking about it real hard.

My guess? If there was different leadership in the AD, there would have been a chance. They completely effed up by going after Schiano and tried to sneak him in. Each and every AD, HC and coordinator in the country saw what happened and knows this AD is toxic.

It was good to work with Gundy. Got some new info out there with the large offer. More coaches will be interested. Maybe a coach will come to them rather than having to go bend over to attract a coach.

Who cares how this affects Gundy at OSU. It's of no importance to UT if he's not their coach.

Attracting and hiring coaches at UT is hard -- football, basketball, baseball, etc.

Several AD's have struggled to get coaches to come to UT. No matter what you might think of these AD's they are way smarter than the typical fan.

Coaches aren't getting in a line wanting jobs at UT.

Obviously UT is not nearly as attractive as many fans believe.

No, if we've seen anything with this AD, the average fan is way smarter than he's been in this search.

You DON'T start at a Greg Schiano and then bounce randomly across the country looking for a coach. And certainly NOT when there are plenty of other attractive names out there you obviously skipped over.

UT isn't attractive because nobody wants to come to a place where the AD is an idiot and probably a lame duck.

I read somewhere he didn't ask for a raise & staying at his alma mater. Letting OSU put the money into improving Facilities. got no issue with that

You're wrong. This has happened to three different AD's. Also happened to Dickey trying to get basketball coaches.

The Vols don't end up with Kiffin, Dooley, Jones, etc. if attracting top notch coaches was easy.

UT is just another state school. Nothing all that special to set it apart from lots of schools. It's not an Ohio State, a Notre Dame.
