I just left a message for Mike Hamilton ...

I've always been somewhat perplexed as to why the UT/UGA game isn't a bigger rivalry... neighboring states, Athens and Knoxville aren't that far away, etc... guess they both just have too many other, longer-standing rivals.

The fact that the teams didn't play on an annual basis until 1992 has a lot to do with it.

It's a big rivalry, but like you said, the problem is that we both view each other as probably the 3rd biggest game on the schedule. In fact, in the UGA hierarchy of hatred, we're probably only TIED for 3rd with Auburn behind Florida and Georgia Tech.

Yeah, but we never played regularly until '92 and UGA spent the 90s in a ditch.

I've learned a lot about the Georgia hierarchy of hatred in the past decade, and I might even put us at 2nd behind Florida. The rivalry with Auburn is a pretty gentlemanly one, with no real hatred to it, and Tech is just beneath them. After losing eight games in a row to us in the 90s, they pretty well hate us now.
