I sat next to him in a restaurant one time. Isaiah Thomas and Mark Messier were also with him. Weird combo.

It was about 5 years ago. I got the Mellencamp and Thomas connection, both IN boys. Couldn't make the connection on Messier sitting with them.

Yep, both IU boys. Mellancamp donates a ton of cash to IU, in fact they have the Mellencamp Pavillion on campus for athletics. He also has nice seats in the 3rd row in the corner of the basketball court at Assembly Hall. Loves his Hoosiers.

He's one of the performers I've gotta see someday. We had a debate over Thanksgiving as to which song was better, John's "Little Pink Houses" or Bruce Springsteen's "Born in the USA." I think it was a draw--they both are really good songs.
