always heard it's pretty painful. i had a tooth about two years ago i had the option of root canal or having it pulled, because my wisdom tooth was coming down right on it. i'm sure the drugs help a lot with the pain though.

Its not very painful at all....the worst part is the shot they give you to numb it...you will feel fine afterwards, maybe just a little sore, I was able to go back to work following the procedure.

awesome...that makes me want to crap my pants a little less. from what you've said, it looks like the 900 bucks is going to be the worst part

Probably will feel like you were punched in the jaw for a couple days. Some stiffness, not much swelling.

Do you have a sinus infection? Sometimes they cause pain that will lead a dentist to believe you need a root canal.

I had a similar problem in February and the dentist said I had a cracked tooth and needed a root canal or an extraction. I had a "Big Charlie" glass of scotch (ice and scotch filling an ice tea glass) that night and noticed my pain had subsided greatly the next morning. I began swishing with peroxyl twice a day and also ran through a course of antibiotics for a sinus infection. In about a week I had no pain so I never took them up on the offer of a root canal.

negative. it's been hurting for about 3 weeks. the dentist said that I had a fill to crack and it's so close to the nerve that there's no other choice but to get a root canal, unless I want it pulled and that ain't happenin'

I had one in the Army, they'll give you 3 shots in the gum, other than that it's painless. Just make sure you get it crowned Ignore the drill sounds and you'll be good to go,

I didn't get mine crowned due to 9/11 business, it busted in half 7 years later....just make sure you get it finished, and you'll be fine, no pain at all for the root canal, you'll be chipper soon after you leave

the root canal it's still is 650 bucks and the filling is 250 bucks

good dIeal, just get it done. I had to get it taken care of way down the road, where they had to break what was left into 3 pieces, lots of dope, and an implant, and i was up the creek $1100 with insurance paying half. Just make sure you get it restored and you feel comfortable, for the futures sake.

It's cheaper to just have it yanked. you can live without a molar or two.

Horrible idea. It will end up costing you way more money and tons of suffering. Also, it's not a sinus infection, as the pain is in the jaw. Hopefully an endodontist is doing it, not a general dentist. That gives you the best chance for no pain post-op.

I had a Root Canal last year & at first I thought it was going to be painful but after it was done I couldn't tell the difference between it & getting a filling. Never felt a thing.

Nothing to it. At one time it probably was painful but in my case, with modern medicine, no pain at all, period. R-e-l-a-x!

Well he's already evaluated it... I'd assume. And evidently he thinks it's not too complicated for him. But it's possible that the roots are very near the inferior alveolar nerve. So, if he screws up you might have some post-op pain. But I'd say if you were in danger of that happening he would have referred you to a specialist. Odds are, you'll be fine.

i am a dentist. not bad these days as long as you get profound anesthesia. gas always helps too. i would crown the tooth instead of fill because the tooth will be necrotic (dead) after root canal and more prone to fracture. it would suck for you to spend that much money on root canal therapy and tooth break on you two years down the road. the crown just ads support, insulation, and support for the dead tooth. also it will turn very dark due to no blood supply lymphatics and nerve in tooth. good luck. please im me for any additional info. i would be glad to be of some support and help.
