with Kiffin and Co. leaving for USC. I have no problem with O calling recruits last night. I do, however, have a problem with Lane going into a press conference and essentially saying he considered UT on the job training and lying about O calling recruits.

I have a huge problem with him leaving this program in worse condition than when he took the job.

I can't believe I defended Lying Lane on this board for so many months.

wow.
Hat and I totally agree.

cannot fault the man at all for going to his dream job.
In this situation, I think we can. UT gave a coach with a 5-15 record a chance. UT defended him through everything Kiffin said. We defended his mediocre record, because we had great expectations for the future. The entire program depended on the coaching staff, and he just walked out, right before the most important day of the year. He didn't give us a chance. When we're trying to run out Muschamp 5 years from now, then we'll better understand how badly he hurt us.

But, is he STILL your favorite UT head football coach of your lifetime? I'll hang up and listen. :eek:lol:

I have a problem with letting him have a press conference in the athletic facility with the orange Power T in the background. Get that guy off campus and let him blow all the hot air he wants, just not there. It's like a slap in the face.

Absolutely. Nothing Kiffin did yesterday makes Battle less incompetent, Majors more successful, or the fat piece of trash less of a inbred hilljack.

With this post, you summed up perfectly how I feel.

Exactly, I'll add also that I've got a problem with a coach that's not man enough to stand up and face the questions he knew everyone wanted to ask at his departing press conference, hell, even Saban had the balls to face the press after he hosed the dolphins. I've got no problem with a coach leaving for another job but damnit, do it like a man instead of a weasel. I've got no respect for cowards.

Kiffin hasn't really helped UT at all. He has set the program back about 5 years.

Redacting all the stuttering foolishness, here is my 'loose' recollection of Kiffin's most intelligent and enduring statement during the press conference:

"Sure, UT fans are upset right now. Look at the coach they just lost. I'm possibly the greatest coach in history. Any fan of a school that just lost me would be burning mattresses in the streets. Hopefully, with time, UT fans, its players I deserted, and the program I eviscerated will come to cherish what little time they did get to spend with me at the University of Ugly Orange color. Also, my kids -- last one named Knox -- were all born in Cali, so I feel obligated to go back."

Yeah did you guys catch the Abbot & Costello "Who's On First" type exchange between Kiffin and the reporter concerning CEO's calling of recruits. It was obvious he was skirting the question. Pathetic? What a Douche.

I was giving him 2-3 years to get the program back to winning at lest 9 games a season and if not, he's gone. Coach's with the first 3 years at .500 or just 2-3 games over just don't cut it. In three years, dependin on the recruits and players already on board-if they are quality, then that coach should have at least 5-7 games over .500 minimum. What say you?

What about 5 years from now if we're trying to get rid of whatever rush hire we make?

Well, I have to give you credit for sticking to your guns. Not too many people would claim a 12-21 lifetime record coach as their favorite. Not to even mention one with no morals what so ever. He looked like a complete idiot answering the questions tonight. It was quite comical.

His loss. Our mistake was in hiring him. His mistake was in leaving a support system (management, ex-players, and fans) that backed him full stop.

He's not going to get that at SC. Many times the fantasy inherit in dreams crashes hard against the cold concrete of reality once you see things for yourself in person.

His dream job will probably end up the same way getting a dream job ended for Gerry Faust.

I will say he was getting great recruits considering our record. Now him leaving, taking staff, and trying to get the recruits. He has left us with a 2-5 year set back.

All he had to say was "That's a question you'll have to ask Coach Orgeron." I'm always amazed how poorly prepared for press conferences public figures usually are.
