I guess we should learn...

We have a coach and we have had plenty of success. I said at minimum top 15, the rest is what you said.

Hugh Freeze and Gus Malzahn not a lot of success in fact I will say less than Butch.

Hugh Freeze turned around Ole Miss, went to a bowl game, and won last year with middle of the road talent at best.

Guz Malzahn was the OC for the freaking National Championship team for Auburn. Both of them, in my opinion, not to sound like a SLAM on Butch, but they have both done qualitatively more than Butch. Butch might have more hardware HC wise, but 1 win in the Big East is not by any stretch of the imagination worth 1 win in the SEC.

I think coach just got a bit too confident in what he was being told by a few and wanted to lighten up the mood of the fan base. I'm sure that's a lesson he's taking notes on. Obviously you and many others are disappointed , but we haven't even seen this team in practice yet. If his system works and the players "get it" , we might be singing a different tune next winter. It could very well be, "damn, CBJ is tearing it up. I was a little skeptical, I admit, but he's the real deal" etc etc. UT needs our support and our coaches do too. They invest their lives into this stuff, regardless of their pay, it's still taxing and I'm not going to count someone out before I even see what they have in store for me.

I agree with where you're coming from and man do I want him to succeed. I'm tired of the last 5-7 years. It's been really bad and I want butch to change it.

Totally disagree with you on this, I think you are making excuses. Guz had ole Cam to help him out. But you know it will all be fine if Butch beats Guz, if not I have an issue. We have expectations and we should.

Coach Azzani (spelling?) said it best in the NSD press conference:

"It's like we're asking these guys to jump into the pool blindfolded, going only on trusting us"

That's unrealistic on a big stage, when they have alternatives that have coached and won on the big stage. Give this time. If he pulls an upset or 2 this year, we will be turning kids away.

Dude Hugh Freeze won 6 games in the regular season last year, like Dooley did his first season. He is not a big time coach, but he will be with that class. Don't really care how he got it, it may matter later on. Fact is somehow he did it. I mean if you rated coaches going in to this year, do you think Freeze is better than Butch, if so we have issues...worse than I thought. I am not talking about Les and Nicky here.

Who gives a damn who he "had to help him out?"

Cutcliffe had Peyton and Eli Manning to help him out. No one is cutting him short because of that. You can look at the panthers and tell that he's not an easy guy to coach or deal with. If he was, he would have stayed at florida.

I have expectations, but I have realistic expectations. If this signing class is as important as everyone makes it sound and we get these players bare, off the street, with no coaching, then how can you expect us to beat Auburn? They have a better class than us stars wise.

I'm not upset with this class because Coach Jones got guys that he WANTED. Dooley got players he NEEDED. I think there's a HUGE difference in those two things. If you look at Alabama, they've NEVER won with a 5 star quarterback. Saban gets guys that run his offense and that he can mold and trust to run it. I don't want to open this can of worms, so Ima leave it shut, but that's kind of what I'm eluding to here in the grand scheme of things.

Dooley showed that recruiting class rankings are IRRELEVANT, because how you coach em up is. The reason Alabama is so damn good is because they have the best talent and the best coaches, which makes them exponentially better than everybody else.

Point being, if Butch can coach these boys, the recruits will follow. Guaranteed.

Going into this year, do I think Freeze is better than Butch? Yes.

If I had my choice, back when the coaching search was going on, between Hugh and Butch, I go Hugh all day. He's coached in the SEC and proved he can COACH boys above expectations, which is what we're all looking for around here. Butch coached his boys to Big East Champions, which in the Big East, was pretty much an expectation.

If I had my choice RIGHT NOW, I'd PROBABLY go with Butch, but I'm torn. I LOVE how he took over this program with so much passion. I've ONLY seen Fulmer have as much Passion for Tennessee as Butch.

This really bears relevance next year. Ask me next year who I would take. If it's Hugh Freeze, then, yes, we have problems. Again, we don't KNOW what Butch is going to do in the SEC, it's an entirely different monster than anything else in the world.

He BETTER beat Auburn period. If he wins you are right now issue and recruits will happen. I just feel he lost some battles today he should have won, straight up.

I think I agree with everything, except the bolded parts. Take out PERIOD and change Should to Could, and we're on the same page.

No this was not an amazing job. TN facilites are the best in the SEC, yeah there have been issues. On that alone at minimum you are top 15...Ole Miss has nothing like this, in fact only Bama is equal to what TN has now.

Like I said.. too bad people dont know enough about it.

Thanks to the way the last staff left, this class was a dumpster fire. Start the moaning there.

But this Cincy staff just came off of finishing 10-3, with a bowl win, and ranked in the National Top 25 with 2012 recruiting class ranked in the 30s.

We're gonna be fine. More than fine, we'll be GREAT! Catch your breath and chill out.

Go Vols!
