I guess we own Mike Hamilton one apology

one season does not make a good coach

I underlined the word may so that you wouldn't miss it this time in the above post but I did forget to change it on my first post. I went back and fixed that for you, too. If Cuonzo can get us to an Elite 8 again he is a good enough coach for me. Bruce Pearl only did it once and he was dishonest.

Hamilton hired two excellent basketball coaches - there is no doubt on that. Cuonzo was an up and comer that the jury was very much out on. He was hired during one of the most confusing, ridiculous episodes (the Pearl firing fiasco) in SEC basketball history. Following the school's most successful, most popular coach ever with probation looming was a daunting task. Martin is still learning and has his team on one of, if not the most, exciting runs in school history in the NCAA tournament. Anyway I am glad UT has Cuonzo Martin and very proud of his team that has gelled into a formidable squad at tournament time. No - we cannot see the future and to whether Martin can sustain a top SEC program or not - but how many schools would love to be where the Vols are right now with regard to basketball? How many Vol coaches including Ray Mears never remotely approached the success level Martin has had with this team? Mears never won a single NCAA tournament game.

Amen and my point exactly. It seems most people on this board can't be happy because they have a doom and gloom attitude about next season. Yeah we may suck next season but I am going to enjoy this ride this season. Every program has its good years and bad years. Some programs never make it this far. Be happy with what we have.

No but 3 years of consistent results and reasonable expectations do. Yeah, he has had some bad games but all coaches do. I haven't always supported Cuonzo but I have learned to temper my expectations.

Its one season. We dont know. Two NIT bids and quik exits from that plus the searing losses to Vandy and TA&M twice this year doesnt sit well. He has found a way to turn it on when needed but where has that been all year?

And you really want to whine about BP being 'dishonest' as if that tarnishes his trip to the EE? He didnt cheat by getting in some recruit on the team or change grades so they didnt fail. He lied to a question on if he had a party at his house. Party or not he had to coach the team to the Elite 8 and that has nothing to do with being honest or dishonest - that is all coaching. I hope CM can do it too.

I was ready for CM to go. He's earned the right for another year in my book.

My recollection was that the university put together an internal search team and Hammy had little to do with it.

Bruce Pearl had a pattern of dishonest behavior. He tried to get a player and his family to lie for him, his infamous bump rule moment, and lying to the NCAA. I'm not whining just pointing out some issues. I was ready for CCM to go after the TAM games as well, but looking back I see a coach who has had consistent results. Even while dealing with some injury issues in his second year. Getting Maymon back this year is huge.

He may have netted us a good basketball coach.

This. People all of a sudden deciding that Martin is a good coach based on wins against UMass and Mercer need to have their heads examined. And if UT loses to Michigan tomorrow night doesn't mean he's a bad coach.

I like Martin. I know he's not the most demonstrative person but so what.
