...Paige to answer an email. I sent this during the height of the Gruden speculation and just got this reply:

Woody replied today...
"Paige, Woody" <WPaige@DenverPost.com

Obviously, the Vols decided to not wait until the NFL season was over. But they could have gotten Gruden. Thank you. Woody Paige

Very late response, but suprising he replied at all.

IF Woody's response was true, I would be very upset with Hamilton.
But I really don't think Gruden was pulling a Saban, Hamilton made the best possible hire. I did at the time, but if he was I think Hamilton would have waited on him.
Recruiting would be the #1 reason behind this, and any 18 year old should not hold the program hostage.
OTOH, I don't believe that Gruden could put together a staff at Tennessee like it is looking Kiffin will be bringing in.

A lot of that is because there's more money available for assistants under Kiffin than Gruden, because Kiffin had a much lower price tag on himself.

Yea but I couldnt imagine Gruden in College...Chuckey would go NUTS...we may still get him eventually. If Coach Kiffin comes in and brings glory back to the hill in 5 yrs...he will be a HOT NFL commodity...Monte will be mid 70's and we just may make that run at Gruden again...who knows

Reminds me of the all time classic.... "Cocks Catch Georgia with Dicks Out"!

My favorite was the Fayetteville papers headline a few years ago:

"Nutt Loves Freshman Dick"

Referencing Houston's praise in spring practice for Casey Dick as a freshman.

I used to be a sportswriter and we would make up headlines just waiting for the day that USC and USCe played each other:

Cocks Rip Trojans
Trojans Smother Cocks
etc.

BTW, is there any program that has contributed less to the SEC than USCe? And if that isn't bad enough, they must deal with that ridiculous Rooster Crow and they proudly call themselves "Cocks"..... Could it get any worse than that?

This has to be the saddest thread in the history of the Nation. If not, it's in the top ten.
