Heck, other than Penn State and possibly FSU, what other elite level program's fanbase has had more patience with its coaching staff? Nobody, that's who. Yet all these pundits pontificate that we are going to give Kiffin a short leash (see Stewart Mandell below). Idiots.

Ranks right up there with hearing that UT doesn't have historical prominence as a top program.

I give more credit to the fans of programs that have never done it personally. Say what you want about South Carolina, but I can't think of another program that has done less that has as much fan support. Those guys are rabid fans and there's a bunch of 'em.

You have only to read this board for proof that a certain segment of the Vol fanbase will be very impatient. There are people actually predicting that UT will beat Florida this year, just because of the coaching change!

Look, its a 60 minute game and anything can happen. There's always a chance. But you are talking about a team that has won two national championships in three years, blew out UT the last two years, returns its entire defense (which was pretty good this year), plus retains Tebow and plenty of skill position talent. And the game is in Gainseville.

Its not impossible, surely. But to actually proclaim it likely that UT wins that game? That is just irrational.

Not only will UT beat UF, but they'll crush them.

It'll be so bad that the Gator fans will be gone at halftime to get Hot Dogs.... at home.

ORANGE SWARM!!!

We will see how much patience UT fans really have when Basketball team doesn't make tourney this year.

I think our patience level is just about right. Given the facilities and other resources available to this program, there is NEVER a reasonable excuse for going 5-7.

There will always be Vol fans like this, it's because we love our team. However, I feel you are correct about UF for 2009, and I have no delusions about the UT/UF game. Florida is going to be a monster of a team, again, and should be favored for the NC. I think it's the NEXT year that UF will really have to play strong in Knoxville.

The 2010 Gators will be a very interesting team. No Tebow, and who knows how many of the talented offensive skill players will go to the NFL, along with some serious monsters on defense. Florida coule be absolutely depleted in 2010.

UT fans do lack patience. Maybe we didn't, but we do now. We've witnessed the Sabans and the Meyers and the immediate turnaround and we want some of that. It's carrying over to basketball as well. UT fans are now officially impatient.

IMHO

if ole miss can do it, there has to be hope that a better vol team can. florida thinking it is invincible, that is irrational.

After the firing of Fulmer, football analysts on TV acted as though it were a knee-jerk reaction to one bad season. As we all know, Fulmer's dismissal had been brewing for several years.

First, Ole Miss was much better than UT was last year.

Second, I never said UF was invincible. No team, on any given day, is. But if you look at the game on paper, its hard to justify predicting a UT win this year.

we could be like carolina fans & have the "next year" syndrome. of course they are up & coming under their legendary coach who has guided them to a little over .500 in 4 yrs & no bowl wins or anywhere close to an sec E championship. we are patient because we know there will a bad year here & there & our "next year" will come again in our lifetime.

The speed of the turnaround at Alabama was susprising in pretty much every respect. Meyer winning a national championship with the '06 Gator team was also a big surprise, but in fairness Zook had left him some serious talent, particularly on the lines.

Surprise or not, Bama and Gator success = UT jealousy and impatience. How could it not?

Tennessee is in far better shape for the 2009 season than Alabama was for the 2007 season... I'm not saying we'll replicate UF's success over the next couple of years, but Fulmer did leave Kiffin a talented team same as Zook left Meyer... but people are acting like UT has no talent, when in reality we have very good (but under-developed) talent capable of, if focused and coached well, going toe-to-toe with everyone but the top-tier in the NCAA. We're not there... not yet.

Oh, I know and of course it does. IMO that's a good thing because it means you are fighting back, right?

I'll be honest here. I don't care if we lose to UF. Well, I do, but what I do expect to see is a UT team go to Gainesville and punch UF in the mouth and send a message that states:

The road to Atlanta will go through Knoxville.

By that I mean we're not going to be UF's warmup round wedged between some DII cronie and UF's SEC schedule. I don't expect to beat UF year-in-year-out, but I do want a return to a quality and meaningful rivalry. Same goes for Bama. Screw UGA.
