Expectation levels.

Dooley isn't out there running his mouth, building false expectations, and trashing the rest of the conference's elite coaches. There is no use building up a team that is depleted from depth in a lot of important positions, and Dooley knows this. We have a "I'm gonna prove it as I go" guy, instead of a guy who thinks stealing a recruit from Florida is what makes success on the football field. Oh wait, and that guy is off the team. Just because you can talk a good game, doesn't mean you know how to get the job done.

Dooley is going to prove he is a good coach, not only by his actions, but by employing up and coming coaches here during his tenure. We will probably see coaching turn around every 2-3 years, and that is a VERY good sign that you have a successful program in the making. I also believe that Chaney will make Dooley more of a success, as soon as we build that OL depth up the next couple of years.

I'm excited for the season to start, even if I know that we may not have a good record at the end, but we will have a GREAT team. Wins and losses don't define a great team, IMO. Sometimes, it is what it is.

I like how Dooley is keeping his mouth shut. I kinda enjoy not seeing people on ESPN bash us and our coach every day

BTW love the avatar

I am lost for words here because that was one AWESOME post.

could be the 17-20 record that has people down. For the record i think Dooley will be a solid coach and right the program.

I always thought it was because Dooley reminded people of Vernon T. Waldrip from O Brother Where Art Thou.....................j/k

That's all the fodder they have against him though. That's ALL. Bring up his tenure with Saban, and people don't say much but "Look at his record at La. Tech". We FINALLY have a smart, articulate coach and people are complaining because he doesn't entertain us the way our former coach did. Football is entertainment on the field, not off the field.

His mark so far is this year's recruiting class-how much he salvaged it and brought in players that did not consider us because of the previous regime.

I like the post, but you're going out on a limb, in my opinion. I don't know that Dooley will be bad, but part of the reason I don't like the hire was that I had no idea who Dooley was until about a day before he came here, and I follow college football quite a bit. He may be good, but he's wildly unproven. As little as Kiffin had on his resume, it still looked more impressive than what Dooley has now. I'm not saying Dooley won't succeed, but nothing about his past as a coach makes me very optimistic. It makes me feel a little better that people who have been around him have a much hire opinion of him than I expected, but there isn't much else to go on.

I hope this turns out really well, but I get the feeling that he isn't quite ready for rivalries with 2 of the best college football coaches in recent memory.

Pump that sunshine!

The bold is a ridiculous statement.

So who do you think will have greater success at their respective programs; Kiffin at USC or Dooley at UT?

I do believe Kiffin did a number on a lot of our fans. We were in the news practically everyday last year so a lot of fans think that no news is bad news.

I disagree with that. I don't care that he isn't as outspoken, and I don't think most of the critics are upset about this either. It's that no one really knew who he was. He had such a low profile job and didn't even accomplish anything. He could definitely have improved if he had more time, but other than that, this hire looks similar to the Chizik hire.

Anyone can fail at a job, and just because he is "unknown" doesn't mean crap.

Good post especially for those that do believe DD will get it done. Most of what I have read from the DD opposition reads as a desire for a time warp where all recruiting and coaching wrongs are righted overnight. Regardless who the coach is we need approximately 3 years to be back in SECCG contention. I could be eating crow in 3 years about DD but as a fan and not a coach or huge contributor all I got is time.

Really?? I've seen plenty of great teams, that just didn't have the talent to finish the job. People are sometimes too concerned with wins and losses to judge a team. You judge a coach by wins and losses, not the team, IMO.

How about listing a few "Great Teams" with losing records.

I wonder what people would be saying if this hire had been made a year earlier, when Dooley had just led Tech to their most wins in over ten years. I agree that he's unproven, but if you consider this year an anomaly (which I do, considering the incredible injury situation), his resume looks a lot better.

Hmm........did you also take into account that he has a losing record as a head coach in one of the worst FBS conferences?

Somebody with a losing record at the college level should never be able to take a job for a program that is as prestigious as Tennessee.

So, it's not only one of the worst, it's one of the one's without the proper resources to field a BSC level team. Wonder why it's not that great of a conference??

It still doesn't look great. La Tech won the WAC a few years ago. One season at such a small profile school isn't really something that would make people very optimistic.
