Unless, this guy had a terrible QB coach, offensive coordinator, and team. We don't want this guy! I hope Kiffin has a stud QB in his pocket. We need to recruit one or two this year.

Bryce Petty's stats:

2007 (Jr.) 73 101 5 279 164 58.8 2,042 16 8
2008 (Sr.) 100 166 5 222 134 60.4 1,507 4 8

20 TDs with 16 Ints and only 1500 yards passing as a senior, not good!!!

Coleman was Cutcliffe's guy. Cutcliffe is supposed to be a QB guru and was very high on him. Who's to say that Bates(rumored QB coach/OC)mold him into the QB Kiffin needs?

It's always a bad idea to have depth at quarterback

emainvol, You are a smart A idiot. No one said anything about not having depth. If, you are going to be an elite team in the SEC. You better have GREAT depth. Petty doesn't seem to fit the bill, does he?

How great was Rick Clausen? Didn't he steer a team to Atlanta and win a bowl game? Not many teams are sitting 3 deep at QB with future pros.

Hatvol,

If, Rick was good enough for you. Then, maybe you need to find another team. Rick threw 8 TDs in his college career.

It is time to expect better recruits. It is time to expect better coaching. If, we want to beat Alabama, Florida, and Georgia on a consistent basis.

QBs like Petty aren't going to get it done. UGA has verbals from two far better QBs. Surely, we should expect to land atleast one four star QB.

I know Clawson and Fulmer didn't develop Stephens, Crompton, or Coleman. But, I don't think we are even two deep right now. IMO, Coleman is the only one with the tools to run Kiffin's system. I don't see Petty being able to do it.

Stats aren't everything when looking at recruits. He was injured this year, and he is on a bad team playing big time Texas football.

Congratulations! You have completely missed the point. Go on with your bad self, player.

you do realize Crompton was rated higher than Colt McCoy and Chase Daniel when we recruited him right? Would you trade for either of those 3* recruits right now? It means nothing until they do it on the field

No one said Rick was a world-beater, but he competently led the team with few mistakes. That year, it's all we needed him to do. 8 touchdowns? Who cares? We had another facet of the game scoring points...you may have heard of it. It's called the running game.

Yes, we should expect to get a good quarterback, but stars aren't everything. We had our big-star QB but he's not going to fit into the new system we'll be running. Most top QBs have already committed to programs that fit them...it's a little late in the recruiting season, this year, to be complaining about not landing the perfect quarterback that is the cure to all our ills.

A bad team can drag down a good quarterback, and vice versa. I could care less what the guy did in high school. If Kiffin wants to offer him, then he must think the guy is capable of being a quarterback at UT's level. If he's wrong, then that's on Kiffin.

If Portland State offered him, I actually take that as a positive. That team is coached by Jerry Glanville, who should know a thing or three about a player's qualifications as a good quarterback.

Well Kiffin hasn't even contacted the guy yet so we might not even have to worry about it.

Does Jay Cutler ring a bell? Vanderbilt wasn't his first choice but other schools didn't want him. He wasn't highly rated but he turned out better than anything Tennessee has put on the field in the last decade. Also see Chad Pennington.

Good thing Kif hasnt contacted him. Maybe he is sending a message he is not really a prospect and shoud look elsewhere.

Petty was injured his Sr year. He also isn't on a great team. It's hard for HS QB to shine when he doesn't have other Div 1 talent around him.

Since Tee Martin won the NC in 98 I probably should have said since 2000 instead of the last decade. Other than Tee Martin I wouldn't take one Tennessee QB over Jay Cutler.
