The fact that Greg Schiano was the guy until people raised hades just shows our university is not committed to having a championship caliber football team. Forget about Schiano's morality.... The man is a career.500 coach!!! How on God's Green Earth would we win SEC titles against Florida, Georgia, and Alabama programs with elite coaches when we have Mr.Mediocrity on the sideline? If we go to war in SEC play next year with a mediocre coach we will be 0-3 before the first kickoff... How the heck are fans supposed to get excited now? I am beyond disgusted... We dont know the name of the guy we are going to hire yet, but we know Currie is not serious about winning. Which means it will be another crappy coach.

All the coaches who would excite the fans said no. Now what?

Schiano was one of the top targets from Jump street. Currie said that himself. I dont believe they made a serious effort to find an elite power 5 guy like they said they would. Who all did they call? I only saw between 5 and 10 names connected to this job and that was rumors from the media. There a lot more good coaches than that in this country. UT is coming off a historically bad season and they plan to trot out Schiano? You cant tell me thats the best they can do. That is bs.

Ya know - I'm pretty much right there with ya on this. The fact that Currie would pick Schiano pretty much took the wind out of my sails too.

And now I'm just floating on a sea of mediocrity.

Waiting to die.

I never once saw Schiano on any list put out by any media outlet. And some of the names on these lists were ridiculous. The fact that he was Currie’s guy from the get go is not only alarming, it’s terrifying. That Currie (a first year AD that knew this hire would set the tone for his employment here. Seriously looked at Schiano, smiled, and thought, “Yea that’s who I’ll stake my entire future on.” Absolutely terrifying.

No they didn't. I don't believe that. Schiano was Haslams #1 choice.

1. It's why Currie used no search firm.

2. It's why Currie and davenport sent a empty UT plane to 3 different trolling locations.

3. It's why Currie headed to the Bahamas.

Why was that do you think?

Even with all the other baggage aside, Schiano is not much of a coach and certainly not the big time hire we needed to make at this crossroads in our history.

It's baffling to me.

No more classic HC for me. I'm out. It may be years, or next year until UT stumbles into a perfect coaching combo ...... but it'll be a blind squirrel- nut thing. This hiring process is broke to begin with, and having the AD leadership we have just assures it.

Nick Saban was a career 60% win percentage coach by the time he left Michigan State. His best season was his last one in 1999, in which he went 9-2. In the four years prior he went 6-5-1, 6-6, 7-5, and 6-6. How on God's Green Earth could LSU expect to win SEC titles against Auburn, Alabama, and Florida when they had Mr. 60% on their sidelines?

My point is this. Previous record is not the be-all and end-all of a coach's ability and professional ceiling. A number of good coaches are limited by resources, support, media positioning, conference prestige, all of that. Premiere programs see coaches who can become great with the school's resources, and pull the trigger on putting that guy in place, all the time.

He won a NC at LSU before Bama hired him...kind of an important detail.

Sorry, you're correct in that observation. I meant to say LSU but reversed them because the SECCG in 2001 scarred me for life. I just pretend that Nick Saban never stole that trip to the Rose Bowl from us. Still, back to the point I was making - what basis did LSU have for hiring him? Hiring decisions are not as simple and easy as people here want to make it out to be, and past Win/Loss records are not always indicative of potential.

I seen it mentioned, but Dav and Currie actually flew empty planes to make it appear as if the search was taking place? This is for real?

Is there evidence that this actually happened, or is it just another rumor?

Currie didn’t promise to hire a good coach. Only to hire someone big, explosive, and expensive.

He did a good job. Big: he's not a small guy explosive: he caused the fans to explode with rage and expensive: he still gets money even without ever coaching a game!
