He stated that NCAA should expand the tourny to 80. I think that is crazy.

He said it on Cold Pizza.

i was watching cp also, you never know it could happen one day. did you hear that stat about 12 v/s 5. since 1985 when the dance was expanded #12 has beaten #5 teams 20 out of 22.

Since 85'? 20 of 22? That doesn't make since because there is 4 5-12 match-ups every year, so there have been over 80 since '85....

Dont forget that CBP coached one of those 12 seeds too. He knows just how dangerous they can be.

On the radio here in Atlanta this morning the say that 11of the last 24 games between a 5 and a 12 have been won by a 12....pretty staggering numbers...

However, if we lose this game I would like to hear what all the CBP bandwagoneers have to say...that would make 4 early exits in 2 years...

I like CBP alot, I love the intensity he brings and renewed energy for basketball for the Vols but I would be very skeptical if they went out of the tourney early again especially when we have what looks to be a favorable matchup...thats all...

The one thing I know about NCAA tourney is that NO game is a gimme because some team who should win easily gets the hook by a no name. I just hope it isn't us this year.

I don't think that the field should be enlarged at all. There are just over 300 teams eligible at the start of the season. Taking the top 20 percent is plenty. And its not like the teams that would have gotten into the tournament in the 70th spot have a chance to win it all. Sure, an upset here or there could get one or two to the second round, but very rarely would any get two wins. Even Syracuse this year would have no chance to advance past Sweet 16.

The Vols have overachieved the past 2 seasons based upon preseason expectations. Neither season had the Vols in anybody's NCAA postseason predictions. Regardless of the outcome, I think Pearl has done great things.

I love Bruce but NO WAY do we need to expand to 80 teams. If we do that we might as well just let everyone in on it.

I think he's trying to stick up for the Mid Majors, since that's his background. That being said, I'm with other folks in not wanting the Tourney expanded.

I agree that a few more mid majors belong in it but adding more teams isn't the answer. Keep the ones that don't deserve the at large bids out.

Seconded. Out of the current 65 teams, we all know that roughly 8-10 have any realistic shot of winning it all, anyway, so who really benefits from adding more teams?

I can see expanding it by 3 or 5 teams to let the scrubs from 1 bid conferences fight out the 15 and 16 seeds and the right to get obliterated by a UNC or UCLA.

What is the sense in having 1 play-in, anyway?

80 in would only shift the bubble and the debate further down. The regular season would begin to matter even less.

Well second NCAA tour in two years. How many years before that. I think you had better wait several more years before you dowm Pearl.
