I cannot believe Lofton went out like this.

I just do not understand how someone so freaking clutch, who has played so well, can go out like he has this year. Even through most of the year he didn't play as well as he did last year, and the last two or three weeks he's been awful. I don't know if it was something in his personal life, or an injury, but something was wrong. It's very depressing. If we had lost and he had gone out in a blaze of glory it would be one thing, but he is a Tennessee icon, and that is not the way it was supposed to end.

If he had hit shots we would have been in this game, but same goes for everyone else throwing up crap in the lane

he's been in a walking boot all week, would tend to believe that means he's not 100%

Brett Favre went out with a bang too :eek:k:
He's still one of the best QB's of all time.

I'm with you.

I don't want this to be construed as a Lofton-bashing thread, because that's not my intention at all.

I just can't believe he was such a non-factor in the tournament. Prior to the tourney, he was vocal about playing each game as if it's the last - it's really difficult to watch a UT legend have so little impact in his last games.

He'll always be remembered as an all-time great...I just wish, for his sake, that his final NCAA tournament appearance would have been more productive.

I've been thinking a lot lately about the quote Hat attributed to an NBA scout about Lofton -- I can't remember it exactly, but the most important snippet of it was about how he has no ability to create his own shot. And he just can't. You combine that with having no PG that can get him a shot, either, and it's no wonder things got tough for him when it came down to crunch time.

last year. sad way to finish for him. hopefully he'll get over it and look back at all the great games he did have wearing the orange. these last 3 games were not good for him.

Lofton just got on a cold streak at a very inopportune time... but it won't diminish his career much in my eyes. The loss doesn't fall solely on his shoulders... our stupid decisions and incredibly sloppy PG play caught up with us.

Lofton has done more than his fair share of carrying the burden over the past four years. He has had a few off nights. Like VOLNBAMA said, "he is human."

To criticize Lofton right now is simply ridiculous.

I think lofton's main problem was our team's refusal to help him create a shot. there were barely any good screens set in the past month or so.

I didn't take his comments as an attack on Liofton... It is a fact. Lofton has been as valuable as Ramar Smith in this tournament. I wish that wasn't true.

You're right not a direct attack. Just don't even care for the Lofton thread. This whole team looked dysfunctional tonight.

I'm in no way criticizing Chris or blaming him for our loss. I'm just saying a guy who is going to be a legend in the annals of UT lore is not supposed to have a string of the worst games of his career at the end. It is not a fitting end.
