I think everyone agrees Tennessee is down, and I am not predicting this kind of scenario; however, if Tennessee were to win 10 games this season, what other SEC teams in the past 15 years would you compare them to? Maybe this will give us a good barometer for what we are up against.

This is not a place for negativity. Simply name some other teams that would compare and back it up. Good luck and GO VOLS!!!

I think overall the avg. wins per season with a new quarterback (ours) is 9.4. Just sayin. But I as a fan do like the kool-aid.

As crazy as it is, if the cards would fall perfectly and UT would some how win 10 games this year, that could be bad for Dooley. He would be expected to win 10 or more from now on. Once the bar is raised, there is no going down.

That said, 10 wins isn't happening.

IF it were to happen, which is HIGHLY unlikely, I wouldn't compare them to anyone that I can remember.....but it ain't happening

Didn't Bowden have a quick turnaround at Auburn in the mid-90's? Cut me some slack if I am off, I was like 10.

Auburn went from 5-5 Dye's last year to 11-0 Bowden's first year. Also, Ole Miss went from 3-8 Oregano's last year to 9-4 Nutt's first year.

Not sure about Auburn, but Ole Miss was stacked with talent because of Oger's shady recruiting. I don't think they had quite the depth issues we do either.

Not to nitpick but when Nutt started (2008) Ole Miss had some good depth and experience on the OL with Michael Oher anchoring the LT spot. They had an pretty decent year though, I'll give them that. If we beat Florida and LSU like they did I'll be very very surprised.

If Vols were to go 10-2, it would exceed expectations at a level of the following past memorable Vols teams:

1965 Vols - lost one game by one point after a losing record in 1964
1970 Vols - 11-1 and playing like NC at end of season w new first yr HC
1985 Vols- won 1st SEC championship in 16 years and playing best in country by yr end
1989 Vols - 11-1 SEC/Cotton Bowl champs after starting 0-6 in 1988
1998 Vols - 13-0 NC after losing P Manning & other stars from 97 SEC champs

Not likely, but possible!

I don't think anyone has really grasped the idea to this post. Just pick a team you think would compare and back it up instead of saying how impossible it is going to be.

The only thing I could compare it to (ironically) would be 1990 Florida.

New coach
New qb (who no one knew)
Depth problems from probation of 80's (not in #, but in quality)
Not much expected
Best player left early for nfl (emmitt smith)

If tennessee had that kind of season, that's what I would compare it to

Dooley hasn't shown it in his last stop, but he could easily pull out a winning season. You're going to beat Vandy. Garcia could implode at SC, KY has lost 25 straight, who knows? There are several teams you could compare to, but the judging begins on Saturday.

That is all positivity and negativity amount to until the games are played. The negative side claims objectivity and never shuts the hell up about how bad this team will be and the positive side whines that anyone could possibly think things can go wrong. It is a battle of the morons. It is quality entertainment for the rest of us.

2003 Ole Miss was not expected to be so good, but Eli was trying to get the #1 pick he got. 2006 Arkansas...

Look an 8 win season with the schedule we have and with 70 players would be comparable to some of the 10 win seasons in SEC history you have to search back for.

UGA finally has a real defensive coordinator and should have a very strong year.

UF is poised to reload with NFL talent all over the field.

Alabama is at the top of college football after a long period in the valley.

10 wins with a team with a new QB, a new coach, this few draft picks etc in the SEC would be fairly unprecedented. That is also why it is not going to happen.

I think depth is the biggest reason we are separated from all the other examples of huge turn around teams.
