Nothing more in the world disgusts me, church wise, than no emotion and an organ in a church service!
It should make every one sick!
I agree about singing without emotion, but I think an organ is nice, when done properly.
Im liv-ing on the moun-tain, un-der-neath a cloud-less sky.
I'm drink-ing at the foun-tain that never shall run dry,
O yes! I'm feasting on the manna from a boun-ti-ful sup-ply.
For I am dwel-ling in Beu-lah land.
Great is Thy Faithfullness
It is Well With My Soul
How Great Thou Art
Pass Me Not
My Jesus, I Love Thee
These are just a few of my all-time favorites. Especially when thrown together into a meddly, or, with some contemporary music (ie. Chris Tomlin) breaking into a good ol' hymm, or simply, as in the case of the 1st and 3rd ones, with nothing more than a wide open powerful pipe organ.
Tomlin and Third Day is how we do church. Loud, lots of lead guitar, heavy bass and a smokin' drummer.
Sweet! Just like the Psalmist would have it  ...there is a definite praiseworthy experience in both that style, and in the traditional hymns - when done right!! Just for a great example, I can rock to Tomlin's How Great Is Our God and be even more moved when the organ comes in strong with How Great Thou Art....an incredible mix of the loud, guitar and bass songs moving right into the traditional "powerful playing version" of the organ all in one song.
