Roberson would take a spot if healthy.

Also first practice yesterday was cancelled for a fresher night scrimmage and to avoid injuries.

RB depth for legit contribution? Looks good in drills but need more live action to tell the tale.

Hinted that Dobbs was not great in practice but was a gamer.

Hyams on Khalil:

Will require 2 blockers. Staff trying to get him down to 330 he's well over 340.

Will need he and Tuttle by AR.

Will take a few games to get adjusted.

When teammates brag on you you know your good, teammates are bragging.

Phillips is really good will contribute a lot.

Vols have rabbit package with 4 DE's for passing downs.

Malone looks more comfortable.

More on Dobbs: Ceo has looked good.

On Dormady: Chance to be a really good QB. UT has talent at QB.

Sto, I'd leave Kerbyson and Kendrick just like that. They've been looking really solid as a package on the left side these past few practices. I mean, poetry good. I wouldn't mess with that.

Could see the Robertson for Crowder swap-out happening, if Jashon knows or can learn the C job well by early September.

Kerbyson is much maligned on VN and umderstandably but Hyams said he was done a disservice last year and has improved. Coaches like him there. He's one of the few not shuffled.
im 100% positive KK will stay at LT cause they havent been moving him, hope hes kicked it up a few notches, prob gonna see Hurd and KK on Striker every pass play in The Okie game

Ya know some kids when the bright lights come on shrink and fade. Other kids grow and perform better. This is one of the biggest mistakes coaches often make, bypassing kids who are mediocre practice players. Some kids rise and respond to the occasion. Dobbs so far, if accurate regarding medium practice performances, responds on game day. Delighted he has gotten a chance to shine.

My uninformed guess would be that practice probably bores Dobbs. Seems possible

My opinion is Dobbs comments had more to do with why he didn't start last year than anything related to now. Or why for example the pass drill vids aren't all highlight reel moments.

He's got a heavy course load. He's probably exhausted mentally. A lot of guys were gamers, not a great comparison, but Bray was a gamer. Went 5-30 in a spring game. Although that was likely due to being hungover.

Not sure I can buy the 'Dobbs is a gamer' excuse. To be fair, there was nothing in the hint which alluded to the area(s) in practice where he's been lackluster. However, Dobbs must be more accurate in his passing and better at leading recievers this year compared to last. If he isn't, we're in for some disappointments.

The hint, "Dobbs not great in practice" is concerning.

No it's not. He's probably not a great practice player which is probably why he didn't earn the starting role last year until Worley went down and Peterman went, well, all Peterman.

Could've sworn I just heard Jimmy say that Dobbs has looked sharp in practice, in complete control, on target with his throws.

Perhaps Dobbs just isn't that great of a passer. He has his moments in games, but he definitely has his share of inaccurate throws. Doesn't negate the fact that he is a play maker and seems to excel under pressure.

One thing that's a positive to me is that Dobbs looks 100% better in practice videos compared to last season - in terms of accuracy.

Another encouraging sign is how much the national media was raving about him during the Elite 11 camp. That's a lot different than the local media talking him up IMO...

Holy carp!

Man, I can not wait to see this package used. Barnett, Vereen, Phillips and Maggitt (or even better, Lewis for Maggitt, but Maggitt still on field at Sam) lined up and told to go find them a QB in less than 2 seconds. That'll be fun to watch. :good!:

Only down side is, would have to be REAL careful of the draw play...we'd be giving up a big weight differential to their linemen....

He did but earlier he was talking about guys that aren't as good in practice and he coughed and said Dobbs name twice. Again I think more of a refence to last year.

The "gamer" tag for Dobbs has come because of the plays he makes with his feet.

The struggling practice player is due to his inaccurascy as a passer.

Remember he doesn't uses his scrambling ability much in a practice setting

Until he cleans that part of his game up he will be a a qb that has to use his feet to hurt defenses IMO. Let's hope he has already done that
