Hurd is over rated

Put Hurd with the the OL those guys had, and he would've broke the Vols all-time rushing record in two years instead of three.

No. Jalen is a very strong, talented runner who runs with great effort. But he's not in the same league as the all-time great UT RBs who each simply had another gear that Hurd just doesn't have. It's not a slight to Jalen to say that he's outstanding but just not as good as the 5 or 6 best RBs in our program's history.

Hurd is tough as nails... kid has a great heart, and will put a hat on you, and often gets a lot of YAC (contact)... but, he seems a little "gangly" when he runs, and he lacks a quick first step like an Emmit Smith, or a hip move like Shawn Alexander... so I rate him a B+, but not elite. Not sure he will play RB in the NFL, I could see him as a TE though. I think he would have made a great MLB here.

Not sure about the last part, but agree 100% on the rest.

Hurd ran hard yesterday and carried hordes of defenders with him on 2 or 3 noteworthy carries, but he still averaged just 3.7 ypc. We need more production out of him, whether through better run blocking or improved play calling.

Nationally, Hurd is 5th in rushing attempts per game but 39th in rushing yards per game. Among the top 40 rushers he has by far the lowest per-carry average (4.01, next lowest is 4.76). He's going to continue to get 20-25 carries per game and it'll make a big difference in our offense if can get that average up in the 5-5.5 ypc range.

He also does two things Chubb either cannot or will not do well for the foreseeable future, #1 effectively block and #2 catch a touchdown pass.

Hurd is a tough stop. A whole game of him has a big effect on the defenders in a negative way, opening up the rest of our playbook when they box the line to stop him. It isn't all about numbers, it's about beast mode.
