Volquest suggests that JH will be returning punts until Devrin is ready to play and may be doing some of that duty even when Devrin returns.

My question is why put JH back there instead of CP? Beyond that, why put JH back there at all?

The incremental risk of injury is scary in both cases, but especially with JH, who has already lost a year to an ACL tear. Plus, CP is clearly the superior runner, and the mantra seems to be to find ways to get him more touches.

Maybe it's a ball control issue. My high school coach had a simple answer to this sort of dilemma: Never return punts. Put nobody back there and no one fumbles and no one gets hurt.

On the other hand, maybe it's just another stupid, thoughtless, shortsighted decision by this coaching staff.

It's a bad idea, considering Hunter is trying to protect himself. He won't be doing much back there.

I don't agree with Hunter returning punts, but maybe he is the only one that can consistently catch them... (Look at our history). Your comment about not returning punts at all is just dumb...

Hunter did a decent job on punt return vs Troy. Who knows? He may have asked for it as a way to hone his skills for the NFL. Everything else he's done this year has been with an eye to April.

CLEANLY FIELD THE PUNT FIRST

It was not long ago at all when this was a very real issue. DY pretty much solved those concerns and does have some return ability as well. I'm guessing JH has shown the ability to meet that first and most important criteria until DY comes back.

Face it people, if Devin Hester couldn't be counted on to field a punt cleanly his return skills still wouldn't be worth the risk.

Can't you find something better to complain/***** about? Let it rest.

I feel with Hunter back catching punts he will bobble & fumble one in a crucial situation. He's been dropping passes thrown to him a lot this year. With the ability of dropping passes he will drop punts with other players bearing down on him as well. I don't like the idea of having him in that situation. He's a good player & all but coaches could find somebody else for those run back duties. In my case, I hope DY is back at it quickly.

Putting CP makes the most sense....hunter back there is another ACL injury waiting to happen. IMO, lets put Pig Howard and let him try it out for a bit. Thoughts?

So you have Pig and Q available. Each has now gotten some playing time, so they know the drill. But you are Dools, so you have to do something much more illogical, because it make sense to you. So you put a 90% Hunter that will get broken in two if hit full steam. Makes perfect sense.

DY will probably be back.

I agree - it makes no sense unless he is the best guy at catching them. He can't make the first guy miss, and he lays down whenever anyone gets close. +1 on the Pig or Zach idea.

GBO!

I wanna see a kick return reverse play to CP. Didn't we do that some years back?
