Hunger Games

My wife talked me into reading the book. I was about 100 pages into it before I decided I didn't want to continue. The writing isn't really my style, but the premise is good. It's like a teenage Running Man. The trailer looks really good.

I was told by a friend that the books were outstanding, so I started the first one. I was halfway through before I heard my little sister-in-law talking about it like it was "the next Twilight." That made me consider throwing the book far, far away.
I finished the first one, and really liked it. Then, for some reason, I read the next two. Both were terrible. The second book is the exact same story as the first, just with a couple new characters. The third book is crazy sci-fi.
I probably won't watch the movies, but the first book was good, I'll give it that. I definitely agree with the teenage Running Man comparison.

Really liked it as well having not read the books. Just realize it's based off of a YA book series and suspend disbelief a bit and you'll enjoy it. Definitely an interesting premise that I wish they could've taken a bit farther. You can also tell they were struggling against keeping it PG-13 with some of the shaky cam.

Interested in seeing what they do in the sequels. Would like to see them up the budget for the next one as this one was giving me some SyFy original vibes. Shouldn't be a problem as this franchise is about to make an insane amount of money.

In closing, Jennifer Lawrence is hot.

I thought it was pretty good, but you know what they call the Hunger Games in Paris?

Have not read any of the books and probably won't. I enjoyed the movie, although it felt like a watered down (less violent for the tween audience) version of Series 7: The Contenders.

I thought it was very good, but there were a lot of parts I was shaking my head at. It was a little immature at times, but still a very good movie. I was laughing at all the dumbasses that were putting money on a game that was openly fixed, haha. Oh well, fiction.

It definitely had a lot of similarities to The Running Man. It also had a lot of similarities to the short story The Lottery.

60% Battle Royale
35% The Running Man book
5% Grrrl Power!

Nice assessment.

I liked it. The one thing that stood out to me as silly was the costume design. Almost everybody who wasn't in a poor district or in the actual Hunger Games looked pretty dumb. The police looked so stupid.

Haven't seen it and haven't read the books. That's just what I picked up from the trailer and what I've heard about it.

Other than the fact that it is a dystopian future, it doesn't really interest me much. Plus they handed over the franchise to a guy that has only directed Pleasantville and Seabiscuit.

That was the point. People in the capital have crazy fashions and no one works. They get everything from all of the districts. They literally live like kings when other areas are starving.

liked it, but wished it would have been a little more "survival of the fittest" instead of all the interference from the powers that be

Yeah. I get that. Doesn't mean their outfits were believable. You got the president and Woody Harrelson dressing like they're from the 1890s, and then you have most people dressing like they are from Oz or something. It was inconsistent, and looked silly.

Yes, some of the acting was very teen movie. The damn warrior kid Cato or whatever. I won't post any spoilers, but at the end, in the final confrontation, his acting just screamed Disney TV movie.

I didn't like how they didn't kill the minorities first. One of my favorite Hollywood traditions is lost.

Yeah, but the minorities did start the riots, so I guess there are some things you can count on from Hollywood.

Ya. The outfits were stupid. You can do fancy lavish alternative futuristic universe without blue hair, weird eyelashes, and poofy SUPER bright neon fabrics...

It was like The Fifth Element without being culty-cool...

Eh ya. Thats what my friend who had read them was saying also, but she said that the Stanley Tucci, in the books, was blue skinned aswell....So there is room for smart editing on part of the director knowing what translates best for the big screen....

Anyway, the clothing didn't break the movie, it just distracted me a lil bit from its awesomeness...
