I truly hope you stay around to eat a **** ton of crow after Hugh Freeze wins a natty. Because he will. He’s going to be the next dominant coach.

Freeze was not a candidate at Auburn or South Carolina in part because the feeling behind the scenes is still that the SEC will not approve his hiring in the conference at this point. It prevented him from being an analyst at Bama three years ago and from being an OC two years ago.
Could Hugh Freeze soon be back in the SEC?
While you shouldn’t expect Sankey to roll out the red carpet for a Freeze return, the conference office block on an SEC school hiring him is no longer there, multiple sources told AL.com. The feeling is that Freeze served his time away from the league and that if a school wanted to hire him as a head coach, it would have the opportunity to do so.

Liberty coach Hugh Freeze vetted as coaching candidate for return to SEC if opportunity permits
It is believed that Freeze would pass scrutiny by SEC commissioner Greg Sankey, who must evaluate and approve of his hiring if he returns to the league.

How did Bruce Pearl get back in the SEC ? He had a show cause

I think previously they didn't want Hugh back in the SEC while Ole Miss was still under probation. The optics just looked very bad considering he would be potentially coaching against a team that is in probation primarily because of his actions. Since the probation has ended, they have likely eased their resistance for letting him back in the SEC.

Pearl's transgressions were a lot longer ago and TN BBall was no longer under probation for issues stemming from his duration as HC here.

You can think whatever you want about it, but it's reality. In fact, it's a conference rule.

Four years ago, the SEC presidents voted to approve a rule where if a school wanted to hire a coach in any sport that had received a show cause or had been found to have committed NCAA Level 1 violations, the school would have to apply to the Commissioner for approval to hire that person.

When Alabama wanted to bring in Freeze as an analyst, he was rejected because of this rule. When he actively pursued the Tennessee and Auburn OC jobs two years ago, the schools were reminded of the policy by the conference office. The rule has also prevented Art Briles from joining two different SEC staffs.

Where is the evidence that Sankey blocked freeze this cycle? 2018 is believable, but now, no way.

At this point in time I don't see how the sec can prevent a school from hiring Freeze; because of the time that has gone by since his infractions. My understanding of the situation is he is no longer under anything that would prevent him from being hired by any school who would want to hire him.

The SEC isn't preventing anyone from hiring Freeze. They can't.

That is completely false. The bylaw states that the school must consult with the commissioner and no where in the bylaws do they give the commissioner the power to veto a hire.

Elsewhere in the bylaws, it does lay out the Commissioner's powers. I think marrying this section that I referenced plus some of those powers together is why SEC teams wouldn't want to go against the Commissioner.

Who knows how it would go if challenged in court but we might have Anthony Jordan ref every basketball game for us from here to eternity if we try to find out.

Once again our hopes will be shattered at a chance to hire a proven winner and offensive genius when Saban hires Freeze to replace Sark.

Bama is the place for coaches to go rehab themselves and Saban is paid the dividends along the way.

Time and time again this has been the case and when lord Saban hires Freeze all the negatively goes away surrounding Freeze. Because, no one is willing to or able to question Saban's decisions. Just like when he was able to coach 2 days after being Covid positive while looking very physically ill on the sidelines......

But in the end, UTs rivals get better and UT gets worse.....
Why would Freeze leave a HC spot to go be an OC?? That makes little sense. I wholeheartedly believe we screw this up, but not because of this lol

The commissioner works for the member institutions, not the other way around. If he started being vindictive they would can his azz in a heartbeat.

Saban could learn more from Freeze than Freeze could learn from Saban. Also, Freeze is not going to leave a HC job which pays what he is earning to become Saban's next punching bag.

Let me give you this hypothetical. Phil Fulmer, who is not popular in Alabama, hires Hugh Freeze against Sankey's objections. You then have Saban in Sankey's ear, you have Kirby Smart in Sankey's ear, you have Dan Mullen in Sankey's ear. You have all the people in the SEC office, which is disproportionately Alabama fans, in Sankey's ear.

I'm not saying it's right or fair but there's reasons schools don't double bird the Commissioner or the NCAA....

Huh? You think he's going to leave a HC job he's having success at to be Bama's OC? Absolutely not happening. He would even be taking a huge pay cut.

The coaches do not get in the commissioners ear, it's the Presidents and ADs. And they know what comes around goes around so I don't see your hypothetical as being a real possibility.

Wow man you took a big dose of ridiculousness this morning...Freeze isn't leaving Liberty to be anyones OC...He just got a raise and an extension and he is happy and some bigtime university will hire him soon...Won't be us because our powers that be are stupid and don't care about football anymore.

This is ******** of the highest order, and the BS keeps expanding every time someone posts it.

Any lawyer with a single ball in his sack would hop all over this kind of collusive black-balling and crap all over the SEC with no issue. Not to mention the inevitable fight with a member university that would happen would give the conference a massive black eye.

Come on now, at least be believable.
Freeze had 27 games vacated for cheating and then he used his company phone for hooker's Pruitt was going to hire Freeze as OC in 2017 but he couldn't. I think Freeze is free to work in the sec now and Believe he turned down USC and Auburn. He isn't leaving liberty except when he is ready.

Alabama will beat us with or without Freeze. Kiffin, Dooley, Butch, and Pruitt have all beat Tennessee badly while at other schools, so it's not like it's an exclusive club. Who cares if they get Freeze, it changes nothing.

That's true. Bama is great until Saban leaves. It doesn't matter...
