Right now I would love to see ANY “good choice”.......Napier would certainly be one of them.

I like Freeze more, because he has been in the SEC as a HC before. He has improved down programs before, he has done it from the get go, and he has proven he can beat really good teams........and seriously after the past 10-15 years I don’t care about the baggage.

If it were Briles kind of baggage.......then maybe.......but it’s really no more than many other coaches, and some of what Tennessee and plenty of other SEC schools have had before.

He has HC experience
He knows offense
He wins
He has a good background

I’m down.......but would much rather have Freeze.

Napier has lots of SEC experience and two NC rings. Saban asked him to come back after Napier left one year so that tells you what Saban thinks of him.

They are using the only narrative left to them for refusing the hire.. if someone is a part of the fan base that’s against Hugh then they just saw the guy can coach and run a program really well. Case and point, the Nega Hughes got really loud in here anytime something went against Liberty during the game and were all but declaring Liberty losers... well when Freeze ended up winning the silence from that group was deafening. I can accept others thinking there are better options out there because they think that coach is a better program manager... the baggage argument is nothing more than them not having any valid argument other than they emotionally don’t like the dude.

What did Saban think about Pruitt? His glowing words all but assured us the Bald Bastard of Defense was our savior... I don’t really care what Saban says or thinks.

If Freeze really wants the UT job, he is gonna have to come out and openly say it. Once it is out in the open, Fulmer and the UT admin would be unable to stop it from happening. Until a hero steps forward, we are stuck with this corruption.

Folks didn’t want him. Folks “thought” Tennessee was going to bring in someone better. Folks complained......and many used that as their reasoning. Those who were seriously concerned with “his baggage” was because of the type of baggage. I have already stated “type” of baggage matters.....as we probably still wouldn’t want Briles type of baggage.

Please answer this for me. Do you think if Tennessee announced they were going to hire Freeze Vol Nation would go crazy and try to block this hire.......because of his baggage?

Because for most folks that doesn’t matter as much as maybe it would have years ago. Or maybe the baggage isn’t the same,

Jimmy Sexton is the second most powerful man in the SEC. half the coaches are his clients. He can absolutely say no to Nick and ram through a hire on Tennessee.. question is does he care enough about his Alma Mater at all to beat Tennessee into submission to make the hire?

Yea......that goes where I stated he had a good background.

Still doesn’t change the face he has done or has proven he can do “some of what I am looking for in the next coach”

Freeze has done everything.

Just my opinion, and I certainly won’t be making the hiring decision......but what “I” am looking for drives my posts.

I don’t think he should (or would) do that. I’m pretty sure it’s bad etiquette within coaching circles to lobby for another coach’s job...and unfortunately, Pruitt does have the job right now.

You don’t get it.

Hugh Freeze is a good coach. You don’t need 5 star recruits to win at Liberty.
He does need 5 stars to play with the big boys and he had them at Ole Miss once upon a time. But how he got them will never be forgotten by the other SEC coaches and I believe it would keep him from getting the type players he would need to beat GA, FL, Bama. So in the end, without the players he would be 8-5ish type coach. I want someone that can beat the big boys and he cannot do it without the best recruits.

It is really that simple. Look for a coach that can recruit with Saban and Kirby and that is the guy we want. If there is any doubt, move on to the next coach. With Freeze there is doubt.

All potential good coaches have areas of concern. Even Sabin after failing in the NFL and having to return to college football. Sometimes you just have to weigh the odds and take a chance.
