Hubbs was on 104.5 this morning saying that the rivalry feels different this year and may be a little diminished because not one coach on either staff has actually played a football game for their respective team. He also said that this hasn't happened since 1935.

I think he has a very valid point. However, from a fans perpective, I don't care who is coaching or who is playing. I look forward to this game being played more than any other throughout the year. My hair is standing up on my arms typing this post right now just thinking about it.

No matter where these coaches had their prior playing or coaching experience, they will soon find out what this game is all about.

GO VOLS!

It's UT - Bama, but we really haven't had any meaningful games since the conference was split. Being on different sides of the conference certainly moves UF closer in terms of meaningful rivalry games.

but that still doesn't make his point about the coaches valid. I don't really care who's on the sideline

It's more of a business approach, instead of a pissing match between staffs with football experience for the school they coach for. I like the business approach myself.

Radio guys just have to have something to talk about.....I was listening to a guy yesterday that said there need to be better rules to diminish injuries and he sited Sam Bradford, Nick Reviez and a few others.

Its still football, I think I hate Saban more because he coached LSU and Bama both if anything the rivalry is better. It's about the school and tradition, southern football, not about the head coaches.

Meyer nevered played for Florida but I dare to say this years Florida / TN game was bigger than some of the games Steve and Phil coached in, not to mentioned more widely viewed by a TV audience.

It feels different because the outcome will not be the same as the past 2 seasons. The tide is going down. Im not drinkin the koolaid either, im a realist, and we will win this game. I only hope and im sure the brilliant f-ball minds that we have will know that saban already has a plan in place to cut crompton off when he roles out, so again im hoping kiffin has got a plan in place for jon to dump off a quick pass to hardesty or a healthier brown. I really believe this game will show that ga wasnt a fluke and the offense really has made THE TURN.

I agree, but distance want to type it out. That point is senseless.

Yet, in this game, as has been true with all the others, coaches will coach and players will play.

It'd help if both teams were nationally ranked.

It'd also be nice for the rivalry if we could meet those sob's in Atlanta.

maybe but the game this year did not affect the CFB landscape like the games in the 90's did. This was all because of a war of words and not for a top spot in the rankings. The SOS/PF games were bigger for many reasons

It's a tradition rivalry. That's about it. This game (to me) lost its luster, meaning and impact when the conference split into 2 divisions in 1992. I enjoy the game as a fan, but its easy to see why younger kids don't feel the same about this game as the elder generations do.

Prior to 1992, this was "the game", barnone. Heck, it was even featured in Forest Gump! :p

He is right, they should have kept Shula and we should have kept Fulmer and we could have had a kick ass rivalry of mediocre teams.

By next year, the coaches will have a better understanding of the rilvary, and by 2011 I expect the entire country to watch this game with great interest.

I still think that Florida will be the main focus of this staff. Winning the East and going to the SEC championship is something they want to do rather quickly. Alabama will be on their minds, but more in recruiting than anything else. I would like to play them twice a year, IMO.

Now I agree with your post

The difference this year: Kiffin respects Alabama and Saban, unlike Florida and Meyer--who he cannot stand! Kiffin's already circled the date of the Florida-UT game next year on his calendar---bank on it!

Florida is also about recruiting, there is no doubt. Lane wants to be the top dog, so he targets the top dog. Right now that is the Florida program. I have no qualms with it whatsoever.

Alabama has like 2 NC in recruiting though. Doesn't that make them have like 23 overall, including football?? :)

...and Georgia as Kiffin has stated. Kiffin will do everything possible to get on top of Georgia and improve our recruiting in Georgia as step 1, while working on closing the gap with Florida number 2 and amping up the rivalry with Bama number 3. All those objectives are critical for winning SEC and recruiting.
