Sources: UT Athletics Mulling New Apparel Deal With Adidas

I'll also add that their marketing promises, namely "Tennessee is THE flagship program!!!" are a complete lie. Adidas has made that pitch to every single P4 school on signing day. Miami in 2015, Louisville in 2017, Washington in 2018, Kansas in 2019; It's never true and never lasts.

I’d say that’s it good for $$, but I would say that’s about it. Now that’s obviously a huge deal, and I guess it’s the only deal because no one would ever switch to adidas for equal or less money like we did w/ Nike back in 2014 or 15, because Adidas is viewed as an inferior apparel company. Because it is. I think if, if there is an issue with recruiting it would be more on the basketball side of things than the football side. No one is going to dissuade me from that. Adidas basketball is terrible .
Viewed by whom?

I would say most
One person's opinion.

I don't know about college contracts but I do know about professional tennis. Nike sponsors more players than any other company but it isn't necessarily because the player likes that particular brand. There may be a few instances where a player prefers shoes of one brand over another because of the way they fit but as for shorts, jerseys, warm up suits, socks, headbands, wristbands, caps, etc their agents cut all the deals and it's almost 100% about money.

That’s fair, I would say that as someone who played both collegiate Tennis and basketball, albeit a very, very limited amount of both, there is a huge difference in the kids that play tennis and football and basketball. There’s a much larger international group of amateur tennis players that are from all over the globe, mostly Europe. Their tastes are different and also Nike moved away from being a big time player in tennis. Back in the 90’s Agassi and Sampras were doing Nike commercials all the time and had their own signature shoes. Federer had his own Nike logo and then they kind of lowballed him and he signed up and helped develop OnCloud. In terms of how football and basketball players and coaches view a brand, I think overwhelmingly Nike/Jordan is the preferred brand over anyone . This huge contract that Adidas has rolled out is a potential game changer and we’ll see how much of an impact it has. I hope that it makes a positive difference in recruiting, as well as keeping guys on the roster that we want to keep on the roster. Hopefully this move pays off in a big way.
