unfortunately i agree...but winning is better than losing always, even if meaningless. The same way I'll view it if we win, meaningless.
i think i know what you mean....and to a point, we haven't beaten a team all year that was better than us either.I'd be pretty ticked off, considering PSU is a good success indicator. They haven't beaten a team better than them and have only beaten teams worse than them. If they beat us, we aren't better than 5th in the Big 10, if that makes sense.
i think we are taking it in the context of does it matter to the actual season, win or lose. and it doesn't. all the other things...recruiting, exposure etc...yeah, it's important. and winning is always better than losing, and i want them to win, and will be rooting like hell for them to do just that.I am really surprised by the number of posts who say a loss in this bowl game to Penn State would be meaningless!!!!!!!!
So a loss (potentially) to a lessor team in a decent bowl game is meaningless????? what about recruiting??? what about pride???? what about playing to win????
I am afraid that a number of former Vol players have had that attitude which resulted in some bad bowl losses. To me that kind of attitude can be counterproductive to team chemistry and growth.
If the Vols lose that will indicate to me that there are still problems over on the hill. You play to win and there is nothing fun about losing (even when you play your best).
and i mean all that from a fan's perspective, not from someone inside the program. for the players/coaches, this should be treated as an important game for all the reasons you stated above.I am really surprised by the number of posts who say a loss in this bowl game to Penn State would be meaningless!!!!!!!!

Of course, a loss to PSU would represent a clear and unavoidable statement to Mike Hamilton that top-down changes must be made on the Hill immediately in order to preserve the honor and dignity of UT's football tradition.
P.S. I think Shula would be an upgrade for the Vols, especially of Cut bails out. Can you imagine beating Bama with the guy they fired? Priceless!
