How Would Vol Donors React?

We may just luck out with Pruitt. Who knows...but it amazes me that a school as rich as UT would go cheap and lower tier as far as coaches. Look what spending big on Saban did for Bama. These other schools like Bama and Georgia went big to win big. Now an argument can be made for the unsung coach to win big as well. Look at Ohio State with Ryan Day. Nobody heard of the guy.
Georgia made the exact same hire as UT made...hiring Bama's DC as HC.

IF...Les Miles were such a great coach why the heck didn't UT get him when they could have? You think he would choose Kansas over the Vols?
That’s a good question. I think it was because fulmer didn’t want someone coming in here with a better career record or winning pct than him. Just a thought.

If Fulmer asked me for a 20 percent bump in donations, I'd be inclined to suggest he give up some of that 6 million dollar buy out he collected for not coaching the Vols first.

"Sure; give me back a percentage of the best era since Neyland."

All this coaching talk....the shine has kind of come off Mike Leach for me. He had another bad year this year...obviously doesn't recruit very well either. I like the guy...a lot...but it may have been a bad hire in retrospect.
Leach coaches in Pullman, Washington. It's kind of like Starkville, MS. Only so much you can do there. That's why Mullen got out of Starkville when he could.

Gave a first time coach $4mil a season and paid his coordinators $1 million + a season, not to mention ponied up to allow Pruitt to hire his S&C guy at the 2nd highest salary in college football. Don’t see the “cheap”.

I don’t get the outrage over an AD asking for donations - that’s their job. I’m sure they’d prefer the details not get teeeted by a reporter but do you think Fulmer hasn’t asked for increased donations to fund Pruitt’s staff, Butch’s buyout, plus all the other projects going on at UT? That’s ridiculous.

And for reference on Fulmer, I believe he had just gotten a “big” raise to ~$2mil with a MNC & multiple SEC titles on his resume. The Coach FSU is about to hire currently makes ~$2.5mil at Memphis State and had never even won a conf title til yesterday...

Answering the question in the original post does not equate to "outrage". If and when Fulmer and the AD ask for more money from me, they aren't getting it. Simple as that.

How you inferred I think Fulmer hasn't asked for increased funding from my post is beyond me. It's the pot calling the kettle black in terms of being ridiculous.

Here is the research on Fulmers last contract to save you some clicks for future reference. I didnt say he signed a 6 million dollar contract. I said his 6 million dollar buyout.

Fulmer signed a new seven-year contract worth $2.4 million last year, and he's owed a $6 million buyout payable over 48 months as part of that contract. His staff is owed an additional $3.55 million, although that figure could go down depending on how many of them get jobs next year.

Yeah I understand all of that. $6mil buyout was somewhat notable at the time bc he had just gotten the raise. Much more $$$ in CFB just 15 years later, which was my point about Norvell. And I think it’s obvious many ITT are outraged by the OP - although many apparently don’t understand that tweet is from a reporter not the AD.

So...You may not be “outraged” by the idea of an AD asking for increased funding in the wake of firing a 2nd yr HC with a $20mil buyout, but you clearly think it’s somewhat unreasonable. That is simply not the case in 2019 for anyone with a realistic grasp of major CFB programs and how they are funded.

Given Hamilton and all that followed, I would think Tennessee alumni and fans would refrain from throwing stones at FSU or anyone else.

I answered a hypothetical question posed in the OP, simple as that.

I have a pretty firm grasp on fundraising and what these programs have to do to meet budget requirements. Don't really need further pontificating from you on what I do or don't understand in terms of fundraising.

If Fulmer came asking for an extra 20 percent to cover up a mistake in the form of a buy out for Pruitt and to hire another coach, I would say no.

The program has gotten more than enough of my cash over the years and, after a decade of subpar results, everyone associated with that program better hope Pruitt is the answer because a lot of fans are nearing their breaking point with it. Apathy is a program killer.
