How would Florida have fared against UVW on the same stage?

UF played a cupcake. We played a better team than expected by most. We now have two cupcakes before Florida comes to town. For most, just judging by the score, it'd be easy to say that UT is same as last year.

Pruitt now has film to watch and should have a better handle on his personnel, and what adjustments that need to be made. He seems like the guy that would get to the drawing board and maximize the next 3 weeks in prep for Florida.

On the other hand, Florida, if they win the next too, should feel pretty comfortable with the game in Knoxville.

Question is, reverse the schedule and you wonder if UF would be licking their wounds at this moment instead of licking their chops if they had played UWV rather than a school I've never heard of? Did playing a tougher opponent help us more than hurt us? Your thoughts welcome.

Historically, for decades now, Florida opens up with cupcakes while we almost always have played a tough game before playing Florida in the 2nd, 3rd or 4th game of the year......Florida has won 12 of the last 13 and is 25-7 in the last 32 games we’ve played. There, that’s your answer. It really doesn’t seem to matter.

I said in another thread I think a team like Florida beats WVU. Strong DLine and fast DBs.

I don't know how we'd fare. The homer in me likes to say we'd fare better, but I don't have any proof or evidence to support that.

I do believe that Florida would have gone to the well with the short stuff to WR's more than Tennessee did. Don't know why Tennessee didn't beat it to death as it seemed like it was there all game and was successful whenever Tennessee went to it.

Well, that's the stuff Florida primarily wants to do offensively. So, that could have been something different.

I really don't know.

LW not sure you all would have fared quite that badly, because UF would have not been starting 3 true freshmen in the defensive backfield, but I do think you would probably still lose the game most likely.

I was being sarcastic, much like all of my 0-12 posts.

UF is blessed with elite DEs and CBs, so I doubt we would have given up that many points.

Grier is the best QB you guys will face until Tua comes to town.

Exactly.
So we beat UF by 1 in a few weeks. All is well.

On a serious note, what's your opinion on where the Gators are at this point under Mullen?

We looked good against a high school team., which beats not looking good against a high school team.

We'll see if we can take the next step and look good against a team we've beaten 31 years in a row.

Not sure when we'll get proof of anything

Taking into account the opposition, Franks did not look like a deer in the headlights, which is the first time I can say that about Feleipe Franks.

Very pleased with the two transfer WRs Grimes and Jefferson. Not pleased at all with the OL, they got little to no push against an FCS team.

We actually blocked a kick, and came close to blocking a punt. That was good to see also. Our special teams was a dumpster fire under McElwain.

I feel like Florida would have been better prepared.

But then again, I thought we were going to be better prepared, so what do I know?

Was pleased with the lack of "Keystone Cops" stuff. No pre-snap penalties, etc. Think we also avoided the obligatory 15 yard personal foul penalty, so not sure if it was an official Florida football game.

It was an official UF season opener, because we had a half dozen guys suspended.

I caught very little of the game. Sounds like gator fans feel better about where they are than Vol fans at the moment.
Wait and see mode for me. WV kicked us for 3 of the 4 quarters we ll see how they respond in a few weeks the next 2 games won't tell me much unless they are games in the 4th quarter.

It's always better to start with a win.

UK is just good enough to see where you are early. That game doesn't tell you if you can win the division but it's enough to tell you if your closer to 4-8 or 8-4.

They would’ve lost as well. The score looks worse than it was. If Tennessee scores on the 4th and goal near the end and the crack back block at the end of the second gets called it’s a 30-21 ballgame. Not pumping up some kind of moral victory but some people act like we lost 70-0.

If “ifs” and “buts” were candy and nuts.....

We gave up 430 passing yards and 5 TD’s. The score honestly suggests it was closer than the game really was. We were in it for about 10 minutes of game time. That was it.

There was no reason for anyone other than UF fans to watch our game.

I caught most of UT-WVU, missed a good portion of the 3rd quarter because I didn’t realize the game had resumed. What stuck out was the OL adjustments as the first half progressed, and inexperience in the secondary.

I thought JG and Jordan played well, but I fear JG will have a target on his back against SEC d-lines.
