How will you feel if...

Is this where I'm supposed to jump in with a patented comment about the past never being as great as you thought and the present never being as bad as you think?

Yeah, just getting there wouldn't be enough. UT 'got there' in 2001, 2003, and 2004 as well. It'd be about time to 'win there' to get any satisfaction.

Again, the formula:

3 legit teams in SECE = visit Atlanta q 3 years.
Win half = SEC title q 6 years.

And that, folks, should be our MINIMUM EXPECTATION.

No, this is where we demand an SEC championship every 5-6 years.

I think we should demand that . . . but again, historically that's not quite as easy as it sounds. LSU, Auburn and Georgia have recently won SEC titles that broke some serious conference championship droughts.

I agree but would suggest winning this year wouldn't change the minds of many.

Since the inception of the SECCG

UF has won 6 (4 straight)
UT has won 2
Bama has won 2
LSU has won 2
UGA has won 2
Aub has won 1

Other than UF - this looks like parity in the upper 1/2 of the league.

Getting there (SEC c'ship), playing well, and winning the bowl game would be enough for me........provided wholesale changes are made in the defensive coaching staff.

I read the title and none of the posts.....initial response from any fan should be a unanimous "LOVE IT". That being said, I'm too jaded to think that a win in the champ game AND the following bowl could be prepared for and executed by the current staff

A few more SECCG stats:

There have been 15 SECCG's:

Team (in/years; win/years)

UF goes every 1.88 years, wins every 2.5 years
UA goes every 3 years, wins every 7.5 years
UT goes every 3.75 years, wins every 7.5 years
UGA goes every 5 years, wins every 7.5 years
LSU goes every 5 years, wins every 7.5 years
Auburn goes every 7 years, wins every 15 years

Fine. In the West: LSU, Alabama, and Auburn should compete. In the East: UT, UF and Georgia. I think it is reasonable to expect an equal run with the other teams in your division (1 in 3 years) and to win half of the title games (1 in 6).

I'm no math major, by any means, but I know that it's been a long time since 1998. Does that count?

I think the new reality is that a minimum of 8 teams (4 per division) should be viewed as potential competitors.

Ark and SC both have the resources to enter the mix. Any given year, another team out each division could pop up but generally won't survive the other top 4.

Both Ark and Miss St. have gone the SECCG and Ole Miss was a missed field goal against LSU away from going.

So far only UT and Bama have been shut out as far as SEC championships in the 21st Century, and with the talent level and the quality coaching of our opponents, things don't look promising the next 1-3 years for us.
