You know we’re always 15-0 preseason and although perhaps not “realistic” the hope springs eternal for best possible outcomes. What would it take for the Vols to pull it off this upcoming season?

Scoring more points against them would help. Seriously they have had our number on defense for 2 years in a row now and it’s got to change. It’s going to take a dynamic player or two stepping up in a big way for us, winning the battle in the trenches, catching 50/50 balls and the run game squeezing out those few extra yards. I think our A+ game is for sure good enough to beat them.

1. The offense will have to operate at an extremely high level. I mean at least 2022 level especially in the red zone. Cannot kick field goals. In the red zone gotta score TDs.

2. Don’t the the ball over. Pretty simple really. Play as close to mistake free as possible.

3. Gotta hit some deep throws. The WRs are gonna have to be much more sure handed. We have to keep the UGA defense from just stacking the box.

4. Have to establish the run game and not abandon it regardless of what happens. The OL is gonna have to win the LOS. Sampson and Seldon have to get it going early and often.

5. Nico. It goes without saying but Nico is gonna have to play almost a flawless game. He cannot get shook after getting hit. Because he is gonna get hit often. His pre snap reads are gonna have to be on point.

The defense is gonna have to play much better than it ever has. Beck is back and he will be one of the nations too QBs. We are gonna have to pressure him a lot and get sacks. We have to get him off rhythm. If he gets 3 and 4 seconds every pass attempt we are doomed.

Finally coaching. Huepel and Halze are gonna have to call the game if their lives. We are very out matched talent wise. So the only way to make up for that is coaching. Somehow we gotta scheme a way to a win.

This^ and win the turnover battle and get a score off a turnover or a special teams TD. It will be even harder if we come in undefeated or 1 loss the noise will be like 2022 and pre snap penalties could plague us again by getting behind the chains. That is a roadblock for any offense no matter how good..

Can’t be a night game
UGA will need to have some key injuries and Vols have none.
Some lucky ball bounces
Decent whistles from Refs

Need our edges to step up.
Nico to keep the offense on the field.

Get any points we can when we can get them.

Late blitz every now And then.

Need our safeties to play smart.

Banks needs to keep Beck off schedule and guessing.

Need our edges to step up

Not letting GA dominate the line of scrimmage again would be a huge step. If the Vols can hold their own across the line they have a shot for the upset.
This.

Georgia is just so much better than everyone else we play especially their defensive interior players. Bama as talented as they are haven’t given us as much issue inside. Heupel’s scheme will give them issues IF the qb has time and a semi clean pocket to throw from. That hasn’t been the case the past two years.

The team might get the most value out of this game by playing a lot of new guys and letting them get temperèd in the fire. Once they've experienced that elite speed and strength, the rest could seem more manageable. But, what do I know! 🤣

Making costly penalties has to stop. This past season we had 101 penalties for 808 yards. Out of 130 BCS teams, we ranked 127 in penalties. You asked about Georgia, they tied for 22nd. We can't continue to make careless mistakes and hope to win against top opponents.

Unlike the last couple yrs, Ga has a string of tough games (@Tx, @ Ala, @OM, etc) before they get to the Vols. They could be down both physically & mentally by late Nov.

And Washington was worse than us in penalties and they made the playoffs. I agree with you we make way too many penalties, but I’m just not sure what the answer is to solve it. Our offense goes so fast I just feel like it’s a symptom of that with guys not getting lined up right away. Even looking at Josh’s past teams at UCF they were the same way if not worse.

Offense needs to be better, which I think they will be, but mainly a better defensive game plan. It seems like UGA just does one thing over and over until you stop it, and UT was never able to stop it or make adjustments (Dillon Bell). I know they have athletes everywhere and it's easier said than done, but some adjustments or instincts would be nice. Hopefully better players in the secondary allows for that next season.
