are so distressed about two coaches being courted by Duke and Baylor? it's not like they're going to powerhouse schools or conf. rivals. How "in demand" are they really?

the market apparently says our coaches are good enough to coach at Duke and Baylor. wow.

i understand all the hoopla cause it is TN we are talking aobut, but just in case someone wasn't paying attention, there was good TN football before both Cut and Taylor. there will be afterwards.

everyone needs to take a collectve deep breath and relax. especially a couple of the players currently on roster.

The reason people are up in arms is because of Fulmer's history of hiring decisions and the complete lack of a clear QB coach, OC, recruiting machine elsewhere on the staff. Many of us assume that Phil is going to hire some pro-style retread with Tennessee ties who is not going to improve the offensive production of this team one stinking bit (see Guitar Shots for an excellent discussion (rex, you own me $5 for that plug)). It's time to move forward whether the head coach likes it or not.

that's fine, but that's not what i get out of reading these threads. all i get out of it is how if we don't retain this guy or that guy so and so is leaving and so and so won't come here etc, etc, etc........

anyway, if you understand that what is likely to happen is what you said, then there is really no reason to be up in arms. we've been down this road before, seen this movie before, we know how it's likely going to end, so why all the drama?

Some of us aren't stressed.

Some of us see opportunity, now after the positions are filled, then some of us might be stressed.

eh, i won't be shocked with any hire made until there's a reason to be shocked. I expect to see someone on the sidelines that we all have heard of and know of and that's been in TN orange before. who that is.....i don't know, but i'm bettting CPF is on a 1st name basis with them.

Make the Fulmer worshippers question their faith?

Please Phil hire outside the UT family. Let our out-dated system go. This system will work if you have GREAT and superior players, for that matter any system will work w/ those type players, notice our last successful offense had Donte Stalworth, Kelly Washington, Jason Witten & Travis Stephens - compared to this year Arian Foster, Austin Rogers, Josh Briscoe, Brad Cottam (boy what a change in talent).

Too much parity now-a-days, go get someone that knows more than the 1980 pro style UT boring to watch offense.

Rut - pls take Rope-a-dope and Luke-duke with you (to Duke). We could have better assisitants in-here. Be nice if we could get "Thief Chavis" outta here too, his time is up, he showed unless he had a DOMINATING D-LINE his "d" isn't very good. Who's "D" wouldn't be good if they had a dominating d-line.

Phil screwed up in 2005. Everyone could tell by then that UTK was not going to get the kind of personnel it takes to dominate the SEC with a pro-style offense. A new direction should've been taken, but Phil went for the safe, easy re-hire of Cut to add a few Ws for a couple of seasons and thereby save his bacon. To me, that proves more than anything that Fulmer cares more about his own job retention than he does about winning championships.

you're going to make me defend him aren't you?:)

I'll say this, if Fulmer really does wait until after the AFCA meetings to make a decision, this place may explode. What's that line from Hunt For Red October?... "This business will get out of hand"...

I'm with you. Please dumpt this offensive system that is used by most of the top NFL teams. Please!

Isn't the best way to save your job to win championships?
apparently winning 8-9 games per season is good enough at UTK now, especially if you tank it with a losing record one year and then have your lap dog of an AD proclaiming it a masterful turnaround the next.

Key letters there being NFL....I can take that a couple different ways since the word sucessful wasn't in the post.

These guys are below average coaches. if we would go out of our comfort zone and hire someone new like Chris Hatcher we wouldn't be a stagnent program.

well said
I hate it that Cut is leaving
but I wish them both the best, if Trooper leaves

You could, but the word "top" was in it.
"top" can mean different things.......but yes it can and rick probably meant it to mean sucessful. Tennessee is a "top" 25 but not a "top" 10 nor a "top" 5 team guess its all in how you look at it. Then comes our defenition of sucess?

if this happens five minutes after national signing day is over I could care less.

i'm not distressed over anything. people leave jobs and new people come into them in the real world all the time. why would you expect anything different in this?

I think it's that people are so used to an entrenched coaching staff that they don't know what to do when faced with staff turnover which is pretty normal in the assistant coaching ranks.

Moses had to deal with alot of staff turnover.......get it? staff into a snake?? I know it was a bad joke, but it's been a long day.
