How much impact will Petrino & Saban have on recruiting at Tennessee?

IMO recruiting got harder with Petrino at Arkansas. First it was hard to recruit in Georgia because of Richt, then the Carolina's because of Spurrier, then Alabama because of Saban, and now Arkansas because of Petrino.

Is there enough good players in Kentucky, Tennessee, and Mississippi to bring in a top 10 recruiting class every year? Even Nutt will work hard recruiting in Mississippi. Kentucky as a program is on the upswing as well.

Our coaching staff will have to work like heck to get some good players with all these coaches lurking around...

butch davis to the east of us is going to start hurting. With the amount of country wide recruiting we have to do, i don't foresee it changing that much.

with better coaches in the SEC big time recruits will tend to gravitate toward the SEC. So, perhaps this will make it marginally more difficult to recruit in the southeast, but on a macro scale this will positively help recruiting of ALL the SEC teams.

Petrino & Saban are unstable. Tennessee will continue to get the players to win at least 10 to 11 games each year.

Bottom line Tennessee is still gonna get theirs as far as recruiting goes. Getting the players to play to their full potential well im still waiting for Dan Brooks to step it up

I think it's already started to happen. Even though UT had a relatively good year, UT isn't ranked in the top 25 in recruiting.

UT is never ranked very highly in recruiting at this point.

To say it's already happening when we had a top 5 class last year is just a wee bit ridiculous.

Over half the players in the rivals 100 and rivals 250 have already committed. It's not that early IMO.

Petrino...

It's not like Louisville was that far away from Knoxville and Arkansas isnt exactly a hotbed of Prep talent.

Saban...

He recruited great at LSU and he'll recruit great at Alabama... it wont be any different than 4 years ago.

Impact...

You still have to develop talent so we'll see how that goes. Richt is a good recruiter and so is Urban Meyer. The SEC is loaded is top notch coaches... what's one more to the bundle?

Fortunately recruiting has always been one of Fulmer's strong attributes... he's up to the challenge in that regard.

Yes, the addition of Petrino and Saban will probably make getting quality kids out of Arkansas and Alabama a little harder, but we've been going national for years so bottom line I don't think it will make a big impact.

we will not have a super strong recruiting class simply because we don't have that many spots to fill. We should crack the top 25 before it's over though.

Pass me the Kool-aid

Seriously, if there is one thing that Fulmer does really well (other than use the phrase "work like heck" obsessively), its recruit.

I'm much worried about Fulmer getting outcoached on fall Saturdays than beat in recruiting during the winter.

This should make it easier, actually.

"Oh, you're thinking about Alabama, Arkansas, and Tennessee? Let me tell you something. One of those guys is an arrogant pompous blowhard who makes a mercenary look like a loyalist, and the other would up and leave in the middle of the season to take over as night manager at IHOP. Me? I can't be fired no matter what!"

Is that you Phil?

That was funniest follow-up post ever. I laughed my #@$ off - seriously.

On another note, recruiting gets tougher each year. Look at how many of Tenn prospects leave now. Last year's class was good, this year class looks to be worst ever. Its about developing talent and getting guys ready something that is never a strength at UT. How many four and five star duds has Phil signed over the yrs? It seems to me that our guys don't pan out as much as Fla, USC, LSU, etc.

That was darn near the perfect response. :eek:lol:

It wouldn't be Tennessee football if people weren't having panic attacks about bad recruiting 2 months before signing day.
