How much difference would Major Wingate have made this year?

If Wingate had managed to stay on the team this year would that have made a big difference?

Bruce Pearl disagrees with you. He has lameted about it many times. Especially in his comments after the Ole Miss game.

I am not arguing about him having a role on the team, you asked if it would have been a "big" impact....

Would his impact have added 2-3 wins to the season?

Definately. He was like a taller, more experienced Chism who we definately could have used to establish a post presence.

He would definitely have helped. We could have played 2 true posts at all times instead of having Bradshaw at the PF most of the time. His production is the ?. He turned it on in the postseason and word was that he was really progressing in the offseason but we will never know for sure how much better he got.

While I was never a huge Wingate fan, I think that he would have made a BIG difference this year. There's no doubt about it.

No doubt he would have helped out, but a BIG difference?:mf_surrender:

We never know how big it could be. We would have Childress, Chism, Crews, and Wingate inside. That means not as much pressure on Chism and Crews and they can progress. It also has Dane at his best position, the 3. Lofton and Ramar would start at the guards. The backups would be Howell, Jujuan Smith, and Tabb. This would also allow Jujuan to have an easier role.

No doubt his presence would have helped the team overall.

At this point it almost seems like people are trying to grasp at any thing that would possibly have helped with this team.

At one moment the board is talking National Championship in a few years, the next moment we are talking about a tournament birth.

Overall, I do not think Wingate would be the cure all for this team.

Not a cure all by any means, but he was tall, fairly athletic and most importantly, experienced. It seemed to me that Wingate was actually coming around at the end of last season. He played well in the NCAA tournament, maybe the best that I've seen him play.

We'll never know though, so it doesn't really matter.

Holy Crap!

This is the fourth time we have agreed on something.....

He rarely was a force, either offensively or on the boards, but he did seem to be improving at the end of last year. Also, he supposedly came into the preseason this year in great shape. You would definitely think that Major could've made a difference in the Vandy and Auburn losses, but we should've won those games without him. In the other games, I don't know if he would've made a "HUGE" difference of not.

Hopefully, when next year rolls around, we'll be glad that Chism & Crews got the extra minutes that would have went to Major, especially in the SEC, and that they'll know what to expect and what they need to work on to be successful.

One thing he was also pretty good at was inside defense. He may not have been a big scorer and definitely not a rebounder but one thing we lack is defense inside which he would bring.

He would have helped out. I dont understand how a senior playing a position we dont have this year couldnt have helped...

I would honestly rather have Chism gaining experience for next year, when we will have 4 talented sophomores and Chris Lofton, then have to break someone else in.
