"Tennessee head coach Phillip Fulmer’s words walking off the practice field Wednesday were along the lines Vols fans have been hoping to hear: “We have made ourselves a better football team in the last two days.”

Progress is always good- but I'm skeptical has to how "better" we've gotten in the course of a mere two days...

depends if they get in the right mindset, and are going to go for the kill. if not and we get the same pansy team we've seen then none at all

No way they could get worse . . .

You can get better as a team in 2 days. Maybe not head and shoulders better, but you can improve slightly. Anybody on here ever play team sports?

Probably no one JG.

I'm not trying to be a smartass, but (even thought this isn't what the coach is known for) inserting new starters and opening up a playbook in practice can lead to a better gameplan.

Preaching fundamentals and running tackling drills for 2 hours per practice wouldn't hurt either.

What is he going to say? He is fighting for his career right now. There is only so much you can do in a couple of days. Are they going to be more conditioned in two days... NO! That take a season of dedication. Can they change the mindset of the team... Yes to a degree. Maybe they will open the playbook up, but the problem the Vols have are the recievers. It is surprising because the Vols usally have a couple of good recievers and this year they do not.

I think that a team can get better in two days. A lot of their problems on defense were being just a bit out of position, and missing tackles. Now that they fully understand why going for picks all the time rather than staying with their man, or not being disciplined and staying in position, are such a big problem, they can begin to correct them.

The only place I really see that they can't improve on quickly on D is on the line. However, maybe they can learn to contain the run a bit better.

On offense, they can get better with some fundamental stuff, but really it comes down to execution there. We need receivers to get separation and for the offensive line to PUSH. They can protect like crazy, I'm really impressed. However, there's no big 3-4 yard push on run plays.

There are receivers standing on the sidelines not getting any PT. The talent is there IMO.

Lucas Taylor is nothing more than a possession WR now. He's actually made some tough catches. However, they need to go back to the drawing board

He has consistently NOT done that, why would he change now? And don't say because of the UF game. He has had other games like this and has always come out flat.

according to the FOX radio interview, they spent already too much time on special teams work, so that in itself might make us a better football team....we will see Saturday.

I'm not expecting him to, just saying you could improve a team if you needed to.

Its kinda of like those puppy pads used to housebreak pups.....you just keep moving them closer to the door.

There is absolutely no such thing as "too much time on ST work" with this football team.

I know, just picking with you. I think people are just tired of the empty rhetoric. He wants to talk about improvements in 2 days. Are these like the run game improvements that were talked about in fall drills?
