How many years with a new coach........

Find a qb and we can get there next year. Maybe also take those dresses off our linemen.

Coming into the 2008 season - Great line, great running game, good receivers, quarterback unproven but we have a great line.

With these six on the schedule, the word might not have been easy but it wasn't the toughest in the country.

UCLA (6-7 2007)
UAB Knoxville (2-10 2007)
Northern Illinois Knoxville (7-6 2007)
Wyoming Knoxville (5-7 2007)
Vanderbilt* Nashville (5-7 2007)
Kentucky (8-5 2007 weak weak schedule)

I see 3 what used to be sure wins for next year.

Now, 8 wins is good at UT?

Get a clue.

I would hope no real Tennessee fans are setting the bar at 8 now.

But coming off the worst season in program history, I don't expect to win the NC the following year...

Realistically though, with a good coach and a good recruiting class this year, we should compete for the SEC Championship in 2010, our outstanding 2007 class will be in their 4th season.

Well our wonderful athletic director set the bar at 8 last year. He is perfectly ok with 8 wins. That will get a coach an extension!

Hey General... you have a new avatar, but you know I'm a real fan.

And you bet I expect 8 wins or more out of whoever shows up in Knoxville next year. But, if he gets a late start, I do have some sympathy for the fact that he may not have time to recuit an offense.:)

I expect 10 in the second year... and how often do we expect a championship? I think it's every 3 years or so, right?

Excellent point my friend. After the debacle of the '08 season, most logical Volunteer fans would pray for an eight win season next year. Lord I hope he hires the right head coach in football.

If we get a good coach, we should win these games for sure next year. Western KY, UCLA, Ohio, Memphis, @Kentucky, Vanderbilt. That is 6 wins.

In order to win 8 next year, we have to beat at least 2 of these teams. @Florida, Auburn, Georgia, @Alabama, South Carolina, @Ole Miss. I think we can win 8 next year, but it will not come easy.

Didn't Saban only win 6 his first year?

Well of those six I would say that 3 are VERY winable and the other three could be W's if we get the right coach. So I could see us getting 9 or 10 next year with a good hire.

I'm competetive and really wanna be better than Bama, Saban's first year was 6-6 with a lame bowl win making them 7-6, I just want us to beat that in whoever the new coach is' first season, then after that, hes gonna have to go undefeated to the conference title. No pressure.

Every 3 years.. an SEC East championship right? :)

I agree with your expectations in general, but I'll stick with hambone's 2 SEC championships a decade... thats ambitious but obtainable.

I think its actually time for another avatar change... the Gruden pipe dream bubble has burst in my mind.

I believe that if we can have a decent (not necessarily great) offense that does not surrender costly fumbles and interceptions next year, we can win eight or nine games because our defense SHOULD still be good next year.

I believe that Cutcliffe used 28 as the scoring average that leads to victories. If you go back this year and give Tennessee a 28 point average, that does wonders for our record. Defense still wins championships, but offense is definitely needed.

Never hurts to dream. Hambone may still have a surprise up his sleeve. Kelly may just be a smoke screen.

8 Ws in '09 but, hey, we'll be bowl eligible! I hear Gainesville, GA is resurrecting the Poultry Bowl. It was always kind of chicken_____ but it's a bowl.
