Looking at the stats, it's amazing we snuck out with a win.

Yards Offense
SC 501 TN 317

First Downs
SC 31 TN 16

Does anyone know how many times our offense went three and out against SC? It seems like that was all we did for a majority of the game.

Two things that got me!

1. Shotgun in short yardage
2. Shotgun/No Huddle when your defense needs a rest!

I recall hearing during the game that we'd gone three and out 8 times. But I don't know how far into the game it was. Jezz, 8 times is enough regardless, but I wouldn't be surprised if we didn't get a few more along the way.

The Vols punted 5 times after "3-and-outs."

The first possession of the game was a 3-and-out (1). The next possession led to a punt from the SC 44... then 3 straight TDs and a missed field goal to end the half.

First 2 possessions of the 2nd half went nowhere(2)&(3).... then the Vols lost the ball on downs at the SC 34 after a nice drive.... then another 3 plays+punt(4)... and interception... then another 3 plays+punt(5)... until finally the Vols had completely blown the lead and were behind and they drove for the game tying field goal.

Don't forget that SC was ranked 6th in the nation just a week ago and they field a pretty good defense. If the offense could've just managed a few first downs in the second half to turn field position it wouldn't have been that close of a game. Terrible game by both Cut and Ainge.

usually 5 or 6 a game is what you shoot for as a defense. thats enough to get you beat, much less 7 or 8. thank goodness for a few breaks and a gutsy performance by or D in the 4th.

here's what killed me.......USC has the best pass defense in the conf, and we once again appeared to give up on the run. I felt like we played the entire 2nd half like we were down 14 instead of up 21. imo, we got tight, and i don't know why.

defenisvely, we again made another bad offense look great. I couldn't believe the number of times i heard "and another SC first down".

talk about snatching victory from the jaws of defeat....

I must have heard wrong. Not trying to be negative, but it seemed like all game long I was looking forward to seeing us get some more on the board and all I got to see was the back of Ainges helment as he wandered back to the sidelines.

I think Cutt can't win sometimes. We get mad at him when we pound the ball and sit on a lead, and we get mad at him when he tries to open up the offense with no results. The difference in this case, is lately the only bright spot of our offense has been our run game. Considering how we've moved the ball on the ground the past few games there is absolutely no excuse to throw the football on short yardage plays.
