How many of you actually went to or are currently attending school at UTK?

I'm not implying that you had to attend school there to be some sort of "real" fan, I'm just curious as to how many among us attended the school whose teams we all support.

I did. I also grew up in Knox w/ 2 alum as parents, I didn't have a chance.

 Obviously, since you don't fit in that category. :p

I've got over 100 hours at UT, and am going to class right now MWF... I guess you could say that I "attend school there". :biggrin2: But you already knew that, Tiddy.

I drove by there a few times. Even stopped for a bathroom break. There was a gathering so I stayed. That's about it.

 Seriously USAF, what makes you a Vol? Family alums? Just from TN? Spill it. :p

My Grandfather was stationed at an Air Force Radar Station by Oak Ridge. Liked the Vols. His children, my Uncle Bill, Uncle Dennis and my Mom were born there.

Uncle Bill was in the Pride. Uncle Dennis went for a few semesters, then joined the Army. My Mom moved away before school started and never had the chance to go.

My Uncle Dennis never had children, so I was like a son to him. He made sure I was a Vol.

He and my grandfather have season tickets. So I play the grandson/favorite nephew card to get my games in.

Charles, I would say your profile is much closer to that of the average UT fan than mine. It would be really hard to fill 108,000 seats if the only fans you had were alums. I actually find that the most passionate fans are what Notre Dame calls their "Subway Alumni." Folks whose only connection to the school is their love of the team. That to me is the great thing about football at a big state school. If all you have are alums, you've got the Ivy league.

I wouldn't know anything about that... :whistling:

Amazing what happens when they flip it around. One lunch talk @ OCI's changed my whole view on life.

Nothing wrong with work. I worked on the Ag Farm at UT to pay my way through (told the coeds I was dealing in "stocks"). I have family that never went to college that are much more passionate about the Vols than myself.

GO BIG ORANGE!! :clapping:

Born and raised in Lexington, Kentucky but grew up a Tennessee fan. How you may ask?

The vast majority of my family is from Bell County Kentucky. My father grew up listening to Tennessee football on the radio so it kinda just rolled off onto me.

Nothing made me happier than being at Fayette Mall or any where in Lexington wearing my orange!

Never attended UT. Grew up with my dad listening to Vols football and I have been a fan ever since. My brother-in-law attended UT in the early seventies. My sister would go up on weekends to visit. Sometimes I would go with her and get into a game with a student ticket my brother-in-law would buy for me to get me out of the way for awhile.

I definitely felt the Big Orange Screw for four years. Once I walked away with my accounting degree, I made a personal pledge to only support the school through tickets and apparel (since I made enough donations to parking services during my time there.)
